Half-size versions of ThreeA REX and RAY coming, will be shown at Wonder Festival

Many Metal Gear fans are probably familiar with the awesome, yet expensive Metal Gear REX and RAY models by ThreeA. For those who don’t have enough room to stash these rather large collectibles, this might be good news: Kojima announced on his Twitter that a ‘half size’ version of both models is in the works. They are also made by ThreeA and will be revealed at Wonder Festival, which takes place on February 8th of this year. Kojima also posted some photos of the two bipedal mechs.

    Oooooookay I need those.

  • César H. Sandoval

    Good news all around!

  • No Place For Hayter

These bad boys are the kinda things I would buy the heck out of.

  • ElAlca

    I’m in love.

  • From the upcoming movie Chappie, check out this (clearly) metal gear inspired mech
    https://uproxx.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/g76nv.gif?w=650
If or when the metal gear movie comes out, Rex better look like this. (Detailed)

    • No Place For Hayter

No CGI in my Metal Gear >:( lol, I would be better off hoping for no movie, lol

      • I wouldn’t expect them to build a fully functional mech for a live action film in this day and age.

I would be happier with a live action film based on the cobra unit in WWII. To further flesh out The Joy and The Sorrow’s story…and maybe a young Ocelot?

Or Snake Eater. They wouldn’t need to much CGI (besides all the Cobras I guess) and the story is the easiest to follow from beginning to end.

        • MichaelPayneV

Or how about make it an addaptation of the first 2 Metal Gear Games, and this way have a Movie with a Young Solid Snake played by someone like Dan Stevens and an old Big Boss played by someone like Liam Neeson/Kiefer Sutherland?

          • Lautreck

I think hugh jackaman or kurt russel for big boss
Liam neeson could be a good Big boss but he need to change of he’s style to something more deep.

          • MichaelPayneV

Looks like you still live in the 80’s, choose someone who is max 30 years old for Snake, and someone in his 50’s for Big Boss, is simple.

    • Shalashaska

We need copyright laws on that thing ! xD

    • MichaelPayneV

Don’t worry, we have Jordan Vogt Roberts as Director who is already working on a King Kong Movie with Michael Keaton, Tom Hiddlestone and J.K. Simmons, and based on “Kings of Summer” alone he is a Good Director with potential, he is a great choice for Metal Gear.

No is the Movie going to be a Solid Movie with Solid and Liquid in Shadow Moses, or a Metal Gear 1/2 Movie with Solid and Big Boss in Outer Heaven?

      • I think I read it was going to be a Shadow Moses movie.

        • MichaelPayneV

That would be a Bad Start, the whole point of a Metal Gear Movie series is to either explore unexplored Stories like The Boss in WW2, or expand the Stories that we’re not fully explored due to technical limitations, like the first 2 MG Games.

Either way get Dan Stevens for Snake, not Jay Courtney please.

          • Exactly, I think starting a new series with a female lead would be a nice change. Not to mention she is the best written female is any game out there.

Then maybe with two main characters they cover the Boss/Jack relationship & training then in part 3 literally called SNAKE EATER the lead would change to Naked Snake and him killing her off would be more emotional since audiences already have a connection to all the hard ships the Boss has been through. And know what she means to Jack.

Keeping the motives of her double cross a twist in the ending just like the game. People who don’t know the story will feel the same way gamers felt when the truth is discovered at the end.

THEN they can fast foward to Soild Snake and do justice to his story line and have the motives of Big Boss explained though the previous movies (Which will already have it taken care of)

But yeah I can go on forever on what SHOULD happen in the films. but it won’t happen this way -_-

          • metalgearjax

I would love to see some metal gear games devoted to the boss and the cobra unit, flesh out that story some more. there is so much potential there it hurts although as for a movie I feel its kind of unnecessary considering the games are essentially interactive movies in the first place but that’s not to say I wouldn’t still go see it.

          • Kojima wanted to make one of The Joy in WWII but ended up doing Peace Walker. Maybe one day if not him, Someone he trusts can work on it. I think the movie is unnecessary for the same reason. But I wouldn’t want them to fail, I would like more people to know the story of Big Boss and Solid Snake. They have great tales to tell.

          • Sting’s Dad

That’s three posts in a row about Dan Stevens… you really like him, don’t you?

          • MichaelPayneV

He surprised me with “The Guest” and “Night at The Museum” and i think that he is underrated and that he is Snake, that’s all.

    • Big_Boss88

Chappie looks awesome ^_^, right up my favorite alley with similar looking movies like District 9 or Elysium etc.

Yea that mech seems similar, wasnt in trailer1 I think.

  • Swampthing

    Any word on an MSRP?

    • Safe to say a “M” playa

    • metalgearjax

Same as every game bud probably $60

  • Xomak

Sweet! I’m certainly interested. Better be less than half the price of the big guys. I’m hoping $60-80, max. Anymore, and I don’t think I can justify it.

  • jack_coban

A little offtopic, but you guys have to check out this beautiful bastard!

    • Shalashaska

“12 shots. This time i’ve got 12 shots” Making me Reminiscent. And that guy.. He is PRETTY good!

    • That’s a beautiful bastard if I’ve ever seen one!

  • MichaelPayneV

    You have to see this.

The main reason Big Boss actually needs weed is the actual Phantom Pain, he needs weed to calm his nerves, to forget about his Lost arm and the Brain Damage, and The Pain in his head.

    • Invader_skoodge

I’m not a smoker but you never know. It may save your life.

    • Big_Boss88

Nice theory and it Would be great if it has that effect in the game as it is not a normal cigar ;D.

I’m occasional smoker and I have noticed that it make me more healthier and speed up my day a little.

      • MichaelPayneV

So you agree that John needs weed for his unbearable Pain, right?

        • solidsnack

i would prescribe it for the amount of shit he’s been through 🙂

      • solidsnack

i’m gonna be super honest and say that sometimes in between ground zeroes missions i take smoke breaks along side snake in the chopper lol

  • Big_Boss88

    I need these sexy toys O_O .

  • Big_Boss88

    Slightly off-topic here:
    http://n4g.com/news/1662440/next-major-resident-evil-will-blow-our-minds-says-revelations-2-producer

“Next major Resident Evil will ‘blow our minds’, says Revelations 2 producer”
Show me something of it first :D… Hard to believe it after what kind of mess RE6 was lol. If by “blowing” he means explosions x100 then yes it will blow minds in a bad way.

Very few game developers know how to reveal or hype up a game like Kojima does. MGSV reveal by using Moby Dick studios was pure awesomeness imo.

    • Shalashaska

Hahaha yeaaaaa.. right… thats what they say that for all the resident evils and take out the same resident evil 5 clone with more explosions and more stupidity. Perhaps revelations was good because it went back to its roots of survival horror but I havent played that..My all time favourite was RE 4 where you play as leon. Everything that came after that was bleh :/

      • Mr.Pony

“Here’s the new RES 6 with almost no zombies but now you fight a giant Goo-Dinosaur. Not a fan? Here you can fight this giant Skull-Goo! No? Hmm…what about a giant Goo-Fly-Spider? “

        • Shalashaska

hahahaha They Always had weird love for stuff like that.. it began to feel really crappy after a while.. I mean I miss the slow walking, hard to kill zombies.. bring those back if youre getting lazy/dont Know what else to make with the game .. but nope… gotta bring in retarded monsters and human looking-gun-wielding-melee weapon carrying-irritatingly slow-unscary zombies :/

          • Big_Boss88

I just wish they could somehow manage return to the survival horror feeling :)…

Well at least, I guess this sort of confirms they will make RE7. They said after 6 that they will listen to “fan feedback” or what we want for next games. What I want is drop coop, bring back slow real zombies, much less ammo, item box, typewriter, less explosions, scary atmosphere etc. I could go on and on. :).

Old REs was awesome thx to all these things, but I understand games change in times.

          • Shalashaska

EXACTLY! But When have Capcom ever meant it when they say “we listen to feed back” ..rarely :/ In other words .. make another DEAD SPACE but with zombies in racoon city ! AWW YEAAHH! xD If they ever make something like that.. i’m getting it the second it’s in the markets, no doubt about it 😀 They will have to listen to feedback if they want their Revil not to go extinct 😛

    • PrinceHeir

After replaying REmake, i want them to go back to the traditional style.

I don’t mind waiting for the action style to another game, but they really need to go back to these style.

Even REmakes of 2 and 3 and Code Veronica would be suffice for me 😛

  • umbralex

“For those who don’t have enough room to stash these rather large collectibles”

for me the first problem isn’t the size , for me is the prize 🙁

    • Well it would make sense if these smaller versions were cheaper as well.

  • MichaelPayneV

    Had to.

  • FOX

REX is always my favorite.i wonder what is it called the one we saw in E3 2014 trailer

    • MichaelPayneV

      Ridgeback, mos likely Ridgeback.

      • FOX

İ wanna smash skull face with it.

        • MichaelPayneV

Actualy i don’t really want to kill Skul Face, i’d rather kill Zero and team up with Skull Face, since it wasn’t personal.

          • FOX

Zero would still be alive after all. İt was skull face who is responsible for GZ events. We will find out what he wanted from Big Boss and his connection to Zero in TPP

          • MichaelPayneV

Yes, but if you looks from Skull Face Perspective he was right, he had his reason, and from what i have seen in the E3 2014 Big Boss understood that it wasn’t personal.

          • FOX

İ dont think BB knows its skully who is behind all that. There is no way! He destroyed his base, killed his comrades, put him in coma 9 years and BB would welcome that?

          • MichaelPayneV

You need to keep in mind that Big Boss is not the same, that he has Changed, that now he has a “Fukk the World” Atitude.

          • FOX

Game’s theme is revenge right. What will snake do skull face? Lets go bowling?

          • Kol Leqejza

it’s not THAT simple, dude. it will get twisted, for sure. skull face may be killed by snake, but the reason may be another one. think of breaking dad, where walter white kills mike because he was repulsive & didn’t thought it out. he himself said “lol, i didnt need to kill ya cos i could get the adress from lydia, yolo”

          • MichaelPayneV

Now i have to mod GTA IV and replace Niko with Snake and Roman with Skull Face and go Bowling.

          • FOX

İ dont think he would be welcomed in liberty city with that face

          • Kol Leqejza

i think they’re abusing eachother. snake got the name & the skills and a charisma beyond any person on the battlefield. the perfect dictator. well & skully got the resources. every soldier would join BB’s private army. even vulcan raven was among his ranks.

          • Kol Leqejza

big boss & kaz may don’t know at this point who skullface is or who he really works. ocelot is the only link to skullface.

          • Kol Leqejza

something lead me to believe that snake & skullface actually may team up. there is a conflict between kaz & big boss how to “rule” diamond dogs. you can see that in the quiet scene where he says you will regret this, boss. i think they may seperate in the game because of their differences in philosophies. ocelot seems really pro-snake in his decisions but u never know with ocelot… the skull on the new outer heaven indicates my theory regarding my thoughts, AND the fact that he kills his own DD soldiers in motherbase. maybe skull face acts as an inspiration like Gene in portable ops. i’m very stoned myself right now aaaaaaand i’m lazy to eloborate more on my thoughts now 😀 about the phantom cigar… i was on that shit when i stopped the afghanistan trailer to read the item description. what i have to say is this: the phantom cigar (which its reallifecounterpart would be the vaporizer, look it up on google) works pretty accurate in videogame terms. like snake knockouts a guard with a chokehold only takes 1-2 seconds while in reality it would take up to 30 seconds. if you’re high times just flies by, dude. not in the fast forward way like the phantom cigar, though ^^ weed is also used for medicinal uses which goes very well with the theme of the game. MAYBE the cigar will just fall under the radar storywise and acts only as a gimmick OR it will be a bit like the syringe in MGS 4 and may be integrated well in the story (since huey tgeorized this in a peace walker codec conversation) which was also a potent drug just like weed. if you overuse u will need more to get high again. but maybe it will be like “here snake, you can fast forward with this shit & get stoned, lolz” cos i’m wondering till ghis day what was the hole in chicos chest. it was never explained. and one other question: where did the dogs left from the intro?!?!?

sry, for this clusterfuck of a post though ^^

  • Venom_Snake_BB

Offtopic but a very interesting thing. You know Grim Fandango Remastered just released and i was playing it and i am talking with an eyepatched guy and look what he said.

It made me thinking that Hideo Kojima influenced by that game many years ago and decided to make the his game’s name Phantom Pain i don’t think this is an coincidence.Eyepatch?Phantom pain? And in game that man wear his eyepatch on right eye just like Big Boss,it made me think what are your thoughts?

    • Big_Boss88

That is pretty interesting for sure :D. I dunno has Kojima played or seen this game, but could it be just coincidence hmm. Haven’t played the game myself, is it good?

      • Venom_Snake_BB

        Not good. ”Pretty good!”

  • So_Sorrow

I got both of the old ones a while back, thought I could have them displayed somewhere.
Pretty soon came to the conclusion that a RAY with a wingspan of 1 meter doesn’t really “blend in” with the surrounding furniture all that well. But I’ll figure something out.
All in all, would recommend these half-sized for anyone with regular sized living areas if you want to display the wonderful designs of Mr.Shinkawa.
