Check out the trailer for fan-made Metal Gear Solid remake ‘Shadow Moses’
A group of Metal Gear fans has been hard at work to recreate the original Metal Gear Solid in Unreal Engine 4. The result looks rather impressive, as you can see in the trailer the team released yesterday.
Created and directed by Airam Hernandez.
Music by Dan Meadowcroft.
Voice lines by Ryan Dessert.
Snake model by Alex G and Arthur Fredric.
Artwork by Sheraz Ali.
Here are some screenshots of the project.
Only question is, will it ever come out or will it be taken down by Konami like the Metal Gear 1 remake from two years ago?
Update: On the subject of copyrights, the creator stated:
We just need to clarify something:
Konami owns the MGS copyright and therefore sooner or later
we will need their full permission.
We have therefore chosen to openly share this project from the beginning so that we can deal with any issues that may arise as they come.
We believe this is better than putting years of work into a project only
to get it shut down.
Please, respect this decision.
Thanks for your attention,
Airam.
Update 2 (March 4th): unsurprisingly, the project has been cancelled. Today, the following message was posted on the Shadow Moses Facebook page:
Hi guys!
We have an important announcement to make today:
We have to cancel the Shadow Moses Project for reasons beyond our control.
We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous support we have received.
Shadow Moses team.

If I’m not mistaken, this was done by one man only on UE4.0 with few ppl in the team (as in the article)
Can’t wait to see what Kojima can do with 20-50 developers for it’s new franchise.
Shadow Moses UE 4.0 demo looks good.
Meanwhile,at Konami HQ https://media.giphy.com/media/APcFiiTrG0x2/giphy.gif
LAAAZZZEEERRR !!
Konami better not cancel this thing! Otherwise, it’s gonna be the cancellation of the Metal Gear 1 fan remake back in August 2014.
Aaaaand then they did.
Wow, really loving the room where you fight Psycho Mantis on Unreal Engine 4! 🙂
Metal Gear Rex looks nice as well.
“A Konami representative replied “no comment” when GR asked for the company’s stance on the project.”

This makes things even more complicated. I mean, they are basically at the stage of deciding to kill it or not.
It’s a shame that KojiPro or fans can’t buy out the rights to the franchise. This story belongs to us, The Fans!
The fact that one person/team put this much work in a project like this with no funding its amazing. On top of that i bet that if Konami threw the least amount of money to them, they wouldn’t care and would just be happy to finish the project while Konami reaps the majority of the rewards, it would be a win-win, where people accomplished a project that they loved and the company has a very generous return on a small investment.
The likelihood of any company, let alone Konami, deciding to pay for a fan remake after the fact is almost zero. There’s a million reasons this won’t go anywhere.
(Not to mention having a few really simple environments and a couple character animations to show is far from a complete game)

Where would Kojima be going?
I hope that he is going to SCEA/SCEE to search for a new talent or he is thinking about Mo-cap studio. I’m 100% sure it has to do with the game development.
I think he is going overseas to recruit people to join his team. haha 🙂
Or he is doing location scouting for his new game.
That’s what’s in that large suitcase: fulton balloons.

I really looking forward to what Konami will say about letting these guys having the game published…
WOW!!! This looks Stunning!!! You saw that animation?! Great! And graphic is better than in games made by the best developers. WOW!
I want to play this. I hope Konami will not shut down this project.
This literally just looks like pretty basic UE4 lighting-I’m guessing you don’t game on a PC…
No I dont.
But I mean this graphic looks mega stunning made by one man or 2-3 people.
For a fan game this looks really amazing.
Of course comparing this to Infamous Second son or Killzone( and Phantom Pain of course) game dont looks so great.
But in terms when game is made by such a small team game looks Beautiful.
sry, but i don’t like what i’m seeing. don’t need a third itteration of MGS 1 anyway. just imho.
Looks bettwe than twin snakes
that’s not the point. it is going to be the same game over again. no tweaks & twists in gameplay or from a leveldesign standpoint. that’s why i liked the MG 1 remake. it was going to be in 2.5D and in terms of story, it was going to be different. but shadow moses? looks like cooy + paste (from a creative standpoint) in unreal engine 4.
This was made by one man btw
This looks awesome, but it just feels weird seeing MGS1 with these graphics lol.
Btw Nyx I like the new grey color you added to MGI :D.
Good to hear!
Would rather have the MG Remakes. I know that one got cancelled too.
First of all:Thanks Nyxus for this coverage.MGI is a big name now.I thought you could share their great work with other MG fans who are not aware of this beauty!!!
Second:As you mentioned in the last post, the future of this fan-made remake is unknown. There’s a high chance that Konami shut the project down, but I hope they don’t do it.It looks cool.
This looks very well done, but that last statement is sort of depressing. Like they know Konami is out to shut them down. It wasn’t just the MG1 remake that got shut down but the very good fanfilm Philanthropy that was very well received and even Kojima-san himself liked very much, was shut down by Konami and didn’t let them do a second film. What the shit.

all of this looks veeeeery pretty, and i really wish they can release their project, but i got the feeling it will never happen
I never play with random soldiers, so “I discovered” some days ago that I can use the eye and the finger. Anyway, I won’t use them.
Looks amazing, lets see where it goes, if it is allowed to keep going and they don’t get randomly shut down, guess only time will tell.
P.S. Love the new site Nyxus, it is more common to what a news website looks like, which isn’t inherently a bad thing, it is much more inviting and appears much more well put together as well as giving people access to what they want right away, the old site now that I think about it probably turned a lot of people off because of its simplistic dark grey design, great timing and great reason to change it up. I of course had no problem with the old site design, but this one is better for its purposes, great job 🙂
Nice to hear, thanks!
I hate when I’m going to play “destroy the TANK” and when I arrive to the place I discover an helicopter. So I decided to make an “helicopters fight”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCNotvih9gQ
Yeah, Pequod the fricking genius, lol. I share your pain of enemy helicopters though, nothing is more annoying than suiting up with non-lethal weapons and you go in preparing to fulton a bunch of tanks and APC’s only to see a helicopter flying around which I HAVE to bring a LETHAL rocket along to kill.
Exactly. I don’t like to call for supplies. I called for that launcher and missed the shots, lol.
Third Person MGS1?
SIGN. ME. UP!!!
that was amazing what’s the chances of us playing that one day

This will probably never see the light of day. And to be honest, I don’t mind. Some parts looked technically impressive, and I’m sure it’s early stages, but I wasn’t blown away or anything. If another remake were to happen, I’d rather see it on the FOX Engine.
It will look worse on fox imo
Why do you think so?
BECAUSE THAT IS MY OPINION
I disagree. If you have good environmental artists I think it would look good.
Here is Snake in the Fox Engine:

Besides rendering / lighting paradigms, visual / audio assets schemes, and several magic hacks and tricks from Koji-Pro, one could build a MGS with UE, PhyreEngine, CryEngine, Rage, IDTech and even Unity.
However, the project would still lack the lot of years of Kojima Production efforts to polish and optimize the gameplay towards something like MGS V.
On the other hand, what costs a lot of time in such projects is also to simply know the result you want to achieve and they won’t, at least, have to re-invent that, but just stick to V’s gameplay as a model (or even improve some aspects, who knows ?).
Tons of hours of coding ahead for them in all cases…
What a depressing start for 2016, first David Bowie, then Alan Rickman and now another one of the rock n roll greats Glenn Frey from Eagles is gone. FU 2016 seriously 🙁 …

First was Lemmy, but nvm, 2016 is a sad one.
You’re right, sorry.
Yes, looks like Cipher is behind this or something… 🙁
RIP Glenn
FUCK KONAMI!!!
