MGSV wins two awards at TGA 2015, Hideo Kojima was not allowed to attend
At the Game Awards 2015, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has received two awards, one for Best Soundtrack and one for Best Action Adventure Game (the overall game of the year award went to The Witcher 3). Kiefer Sutherland was invited on stage to accept the award for Best Action Adventure Game.
“On behalf of Hideo Kojima and everyone who worked on the game I will accept this reward and thank you from the bottom of our hearts. On a personal note I just want to say that you guys are the most devoted fans I have ever seen. It doesn’t matter whether it seems to be the premiere of 24 or the opening of a film, the only thing I seem to ever sing are posters of Snake from Metal Gear Solid. You guys rock, have a great night!”
Unfortunately Hideo Kojima himself was not present at the show to accept the awards, because Konami prohibited him from doing so. Geoff Keighley explained: “As you noticed Hideo Kojima is not here with is tonight, and I want to tell you a little bit about that. Mr Kojima had every intention to be here with us tonight, but unfortunately he was informed by a lawyer representing Konami just recently that he would not be allowed to travel to tonight’s award ceremony to accept any awards. He’s still under an employment contract and it’s disappointing and it’s inconceivable to me that an artist like Hideo would not be allowed to come here and celebrate with his peers, and his teammates such an incredible game as Metal Gear Solid V. But that’s the situation we’re in. Hideo is in Tokyo right now watching the show, so we want you to know, Hideo, that we’re thinking of you and we miss you. We hope to see you at The Game Awards 2016.”
There was a surprise for Kojima though: Stefanie Joosten stepped on stage to perform Quiet’s Theme live.
Afterwards Geoff Keighley announced Metal Gear Solid V one the Best Soundtrack award as well.

I’m kinda disapointed Donna, Ludwig and Stephanie didn’t get to accept that award on the stage; I’m sure they would’ve said some amazing things. But I guess we can’t have everything; many of the awards couldn’t be shown and they did squeeze in that Quiet performance last minute into their two hour show, so I’m grateful for that. I think they chose Quiet’s theme because its shorter than Sins of the Father.

i don’t know which would be the correct way to put this, but to me the game strongest musical side are songs as opposed to… a score? (it’s correct to call it score? i mean the music over the whole game like in past MGS’s) i think that the songs where amazing in the game, but it lacked a bit on the “ambient” music, which is sad because there are a couple of pieces that where amazing but just for a couple of seconds though i think that’s probably because of the game being open world…
I legitly got chills when that was playing while Kiefer walked towards the stage.
So did I. V’s sound track brought such a “volume” to the whole ceremony.
Intense moment. Kiefer looks so proud, honored and respectful to the fans.
By the way brothers, what’s your favorite part in MGSV? I thought for long time it would be the beginning of TPP and it was some of the best I have seen. But it came later in the game. One of the best and most emotional stuff I have experienced in games for me was this whole mission, but more precisely the later part. I cried when I played through this, and not many games do that to me anymore ;). There has been few before, like MGS3 and MGS4.

Oh, man. Don’t mention Emmerich in that moment. I fucking hate him. With cold hate. He is the biggest hypocrite in video games for me. He didn’t pity the soldiers, he was afraid for himself. He knew Snake was not going to let such big tragedy go unnoticed. And with him being the cause of that leak, that weak fucker just tried to make Venom guilty. “They were your own men!”. Okay, mister smarty pants, lets get them outside, warm air, sun…oh, the whole world dead. Fuck I hate that piece of shit. I was so fucking angry with him, that I wanted his trial to feature a controlled decision whether to shoot him or not. And if I shoot him, make it a paradox like in MGS3 and rewind. I would pull the trigger about 100 times before I let him sail away.
There was only one person in my entire media, whom I hated and despised that much. I always sympathize with villains and bad guys, but that fucker drove me insane. It was Scythe Master from Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ anime, when he took a little good girl, who was a friend of protagonist, and turned her into a psychotic killer. These two fuckers are the only men who earned my loathing.

My friend gave it 8/10, and when I asked why so low, he said something like “man, they like take cute little rabbits and murder them in front of you” (a metaphor ofc, I really lose my shit at violance to animals). But I like dark and “grown-up” anime without little boys and girls with flashy superpowers saving the world. The last third is a bit underwhelming, but the ending hits you like a brick of stone. So I hope you like it, tell me here when you finish ^^

Aye, I love that part too :D, was quite mindblowing. The escape from Sahelanthropus is some of the coolest stuff I’ve seen too, Kojima really did wonders with the cutscenes imo.

i love the part when we play as the real big boss, we create outer heaven and have some cool boss fight with skull face and that other final mission with the last boss, such an epic fight, i can’t decide over all those moments…. wait…. that never happened XD lol, just kidding.
all the first chapter is very good story wise, and i would also say that the gameplay is so good that it even competes with the story for a “best moment” choice. there where some missions that where really tense (usually when you have to save a lot of prisoners) and i loved that. as pony says that last room from that mission was probably the most heartbreaking moment, i remember it shook me up a bit, though the mission loses a bit of significance after the game’s final twist IMO.

43 is the most emotionally taxing moment in the game, imo. Paz’ ending and A Quiet Exit were tough as well. The scene in Blood Runs Deep when he records the audio for the contract was rather tense and had me on edge.
As far as my favorite moment in terms of gameplay, it was when I played Where Do The Bees Sleep? A massive mission AO made the game feel like it really opened up. Being in a new sprawling part of the map with the Mountain Relay Base leading up to the huge Da Smasei Laman outpost was amazing.
That mission 6 is superb, I love it for the length also. For first time it took me about 2 hours to complete :). What makes it even better is that epic encounter at the end, fighting the Skulls is amazing imo. Gives this constant thrill, when gotta keep moving ’cause they’re so fast.
So many good moments ;).
Yeah, that was an hour long mission for me. The game REALLY opened up at that point and felt absolutely massive. The surprise SKULLS were nice too.
I knew I forgot something. Hellbound, White Mamba, Code Talker, Skull Face, all were wonderful.

It may sound weird to some, but I felt sitting in front of a real TOP Metal Gear while extracting Huey.
First of all, I did not really know the base nor the interface and was lucky to try to sneak straight to the correct hangar. Seeing I could not enter from one door, I decided to climb on the roof and saw the windows on the opposite side. Looking through, I saw that Huey was there busy at work. Right there, I sooo felt like “man, I love this franchise”. After getting inside and hearing The Boss, speaking from the AI pod with all those photos stuck on it was just too much pleasure for me.
So gameplay-wise, it is more about when I really felt in a Metal Gear than the particular mission.
Besides that and regarding the story, Quiet sniping the jet fighter pilot was also really intense for me. But there are sooo many fancy moments. For example, when Quiet sacrificed herself to get the kid’s pendant, under Snake’s eyes, completely going crazy about his endangered love… Just Fantastic…

As for the PR disaster, there might be some alternative explanation, which is Konami prevented Kojima to attend the awards, so that maybe he wouldn’t say anything about what is going on at Konami. They were maybe hopping to get Kojima to use some excuse for not attending, and unfortunately, for Konami, that strategy completely backfired.

Totally agree. Thanks for sharing Nyx ;). I think Geoff had huge courage for what he told us all, it seemed to be difficult to explain why Kojima wasn’t at the show. But he said at it was which required some balls.
I like how Geoff and Kojima have been buddies for years, would’ve been so awesome to see them together ^^.

One of the things that I wonder about the awards was, if Konami on any capacity thought that this story wouldn’t get out and was hoping to keep things under wraps, preventing Kojima from attending under any other excuse (basically a strategy to avoid Kojima to say anything about the situation at Konami, which backfired) or if it is indeed the pettiness and low morals that we are all seeing.
They maybe think, that over time we forget all this ever happened. But they’re wrong.
Well yes, but from a marketing perspective they are burning a bridge which is the console and PC consumers, and burning bridges is never a good strategy but also they are shifting their focus to mobile, they may say they are not abandoning consoles, sure, they are just putting that whole section in the drawer.
Having all of that in account, the kind of people that live on the mobile games scene probably don’t care about any of this or even have knowledge of this and that’s what they are going with all these “Fuck this Kojima guy, and screw you players, by the moment we start dangling another Silent Hill or MGS game, you will still come and eat from our hand. And while you are all huffing and puffing we are going over there and build a small empire on mobile games.” This is my take on the affair from a business perspective.

I feel like this whole Konami and Kojima thing is a huge phantom pain… MGS presentations without Kojima-san don’t feel whole. Fans hoped to see him on live stage after such a long time. I don’t respect any other developer so much, so it hurts when Konami do this :C.
When Carmack left ID Software / Bethesda, I was really pissed off, like really. But here I have an entirely different NUCLEAR (as you mentioned) reaction. Now that they did the worst to me, I don’t fear any thing else coming from such morons in the game industry.

Just realized this but since this whole affair with Konami started we have mainly seen anger towards Konami from players and some critics, but now developers are getting into the mix, which lays the question “Who will want to work with Konami now?”. This is starting to look like the last straw for everyone, Konami now is not just a poorly managed company but a toxic one to work with, after this, everyone (developers and studios) that may work on Konami franchises will certainly think twice before either reaching out to Konami to work on their franchises or accept invitations to work on joined projects.
Good to see them speak out against this.

Punished Konami. A company without Hideo
Hi guys. So yesterday morning, in the notifications when you boot the game, there was the December patch notification with the fob skull invasion event and the new type of fob infiltration but it was removed and hasn’t appeared again? Anyone know something about this? Was it canceled? Did they jump the gun on the notice? What’s the didlideal?
Here in Italy the online components (FOB, resources, etc…) doesen’t work properly today. Is very very slow and then it fails completely loading and gives a web error message. The game though remains online… Could servers be packed after Black Friday sales?

Yeah, there are some old fans complaining about the combat. I’m a fan of turn-based combat, but this looks gorgeous and it’s been almost 20 years since FF7. So imo games should change in that time.
Old fans will always complain. A remaster with good graphics? Boooo, can’t do something new, you just want our money! A remake with changes to gameplay? Booo, this is not the game I wanted, you try to sell me something different. When I first saw FF7 remake announcment, I thought to myself: “Wait till they show gameplay, the cancer will be huge.”

The thing makes me sad that there is still no official word that they will port to PC.
When they announced the remake they said “coming first to PS4”. That confirms it is not exclusive. I just don’t see it being PS4/XB1 but not PC, considering how many Final Fantasy games they’ve ported to Steam in the last couple of years.

they are very good! the stories are nice and the overall presentation, pace and direction is very cool, if you like old school beat em ups i’ll really recommend these, it’s a modern take on the genre
mhhh i don’t know even though i haven’t played 0 i doesn’t seems as interesting to me, because it’s a prequel and i usually don’t like them because the majority just shove a story on the characters past. i’m more excited for 6! and the remake too,it was a shame there wasn’t an hd version of the first two on ps3, i’ll play 0 anyways some day since Yakuza games always have a nice narrative.
