Hideo Kojima has shared some interesting anecdotes from the development of previous Metal Gear Solid games. Translations once again by JunkerHQ.
- Kojima originally wanted Psycho Mantis to be able to see other companies’ games as well on your memory card, but deals couldn’t be arranged. In the PlayStation version, Mantis can see it if you’ve played certain Konami games, Azure Dreams, Suikoden, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Vandal Hearts, to be exact, and in the Japanese version also Policenauts and Snatcher. In The Twin Snakes, the 2004 remake published by Nintendo, he recognizes several Nintendo games: Super Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda, The Wind Waker and Super Smash Brothers Melee, and Silicon Knight’s title Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.
- When Raiden has to navigate through Arsenal Gear in his birthday suit, originally it was the plan his privates could get exposed during combat depending on your controlling skills. This would result in a game over. However, it did not end up in the final game.
- The original Metal Gear Solid is famous for its unique boss fights (mainly Psycho Mantis) but Kojima actually sees Decoy Octopus as an original approach to a boss fight as well: you’re expecting to fight him but never do.
- Initially, MGS3’s nightmare sequence would have the player play the first stage of Gradius.
- There were plans to put a ‘Mantis Mask’ in MGS2, available at the second playtrhough. This mask would have allowed you to see if a person is lying. So for example, when Snake says ‘I’m Iroquois Pliskin’, when you’d be wearing the mask he’d say ‘Im Solid Snake’.

Kojima is either straight up with us when he needs be, or on most occasions, just trolls us for fun. He is beyond jokes. If anything this teases something else in the game or he’s trying to mess with out heads.

Well, here is to hoping that he doesnt back down from any of his ideas in Phantom Pain. Show everyone’s genital’s Kojima! Hell, Now I want to go into the bath and see that the buttocks there are genuine. No its not because I’m gay, It’s Because I want reality 😛 Ofcourse I dont mean that kojima should literally do this .. all im saying is that he shouldn’t be afraid to show nudity in game that is about the brutality of war. It’s about the very horrors a man sees on the battlefield which include taboo subjects like rape, torture, mutilation etc etc.. its not taking games too far. It bringing games to the truth of the world that many idiots now-a-days pretend not to see. I remember back when Paz’s Rape was a big thing for the media.. i mean come on.. woman/children/men are all raped in war. Denying that is denying the brutality of war and saying war is Peace. It isnt. and Im not saying rape and torture is good, Im saying that despite it being bad/horrible, it still happens in war. All Games arent meant for kids and Im hoping he makes the darkest game possible so that it wakes people up. YOU GO KOJIMA!

Well you do encounter Decoy and his skills. How would a fight with him look like? His specialty was not direct combat but camouflage and impersonation. You have encountered him without even knowing that. For me this is perfect “boss fight” with Octopus

I understand what you mean . I do not know if it is necessary to explain this or that, but no doubt this would be a game to deal with atrocities in war like no other, remember Rambo 4, which brought another level of violence in the war , the raw thing , and TPP could do the same thing , I think it would be a much more interesting goal than showing private parts are for show , however, if shown something on bringing the player to understand the reality of war , so I guess that makes sense.
I know there’s a commentary of his about MGS3, but I’d like to see his commentary for the other Metal Gear games as well

Ahh the memories playing Raiden in Naked mode. I remember contacting the Colonel saying that you can’t do hang mode due to “certain something being shown”
I’m also disappointed that the Nightmare Mode from MGS3 was removed from the HD Collection 🙁
I read it was a prototype for a game, but got cancelled and used what’s left of it and put it in on MGS3.

I haven’t found any, but it starts on Monday and Kojima + folks are busy climbing to their mountain summit so…
I hate to admit it, but I think next time we see Kojima and TPP in a game event with all the announcements we want, is in E3 June ;). But it will be the biggest thing in E3 ever, gonna see final epic trailer and gameplay for sure.
Then release few months later.
It feels to be so far away, but I’m sure months go fast in the end.

I have to ask Do you think that we’re really playing as Big Boss in TPP? I mean I don’t think we are and the proof is the shadow of snake in GZ that head does not look anything like Big Boss. if indeed we are playing as someone else I’m anxious to know what the real Boss has been doing all that time or who we really are.
