People who own Ground Zeroes will be able to revisit Camp Omega in The Phantom Pain (retranslated)
Earlier this year Hideo Kojima was interviewed by Geoff Keighley, live on Twitch. One of the questions was whether or not we will be able to revisit Camp Omega, the enemy base in Ground Zeroes, in MGSV: The Phantom Pain. The translation by Kojima Productions’ Ken Mendoza was a bit unclear at the time, and the information was somewhat lost in translation. Kojima’s answer has recently been retranslated by JunkerHQ, and it appears Kojima was actually a bit more specific in his own words.
His actual response to the question was:
“People who own GZ will be able to play a different mission(s) at Camp Omega in TPP. That’s the current plan. There’s something of a big feature involved. It’s never been done in the games industry before. So I can’t go into detail about it, but I think when you experience it for yourselves you’ll be surprised. It’s something that’s only possible through video games.”
So it seems that if you own Ground Zeroes, you will in fact be able to revisit the camp, and there will be some kind of surprise involved. Keep in mind though that this interview is from March of this year, so things may have changed since then.

It’ll be great returning as snake 9 years later
Funnily enough the same amount of time as Snake and Shadow Moses.
http://stubbornthoughts.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/hank-shocked.gif?w=560
Snake goes back to pick up his infinite suppressor tranq gun so he doesn’t have to develop it again
And the sneaking suit!
Just the new mechanichs alone are worth going to Camp Omega again; hiding in dumpsters, AI buddies and stuff..
Didn’t the same thing happen in MGS4 with Shadow Moses after 9 years?
yeah except a lot was closed off and you didn’t need mgs1
This is very interesting info, domo arigatou :). I will gladly visit there again at some point!
Now what the heck could this mean D: …!?
“It’s never been done in the games industry before, It’s something that’s only possible through video games.”
So, does that also qualify for those who own the digital version of GZ?
At the time of the interview it wasn’t final yet, and we haven’t heard about it since then, so the specifics are not clear right now. If it hasn’t been scrapped yet, that is.
This means GZ won’t be in TTP. For those who still think GZ was just a demo.
Crap it. I have GZ on PS3 and I intend to get TTP on PS4… hm.
good stuff, i just hope the game doesn’t get delayed, btw guys which version should i get XB1 or PS4?
If you have the choice you should probably get the PS4 version, since it performs better. But maybe you have your reasons to go with the XB1 version.
PS4. To me, Metal Gear has always seemed more at home on PS consoles
Also everything is on the ps4 version … plus 1080p 60fps!!!
Or much better the PC Version…plus 4K and over 60fps
on a smaller screen and no, it caps at 60. I have a gaming pc, consoles are just better. If you have to mod a game to enjoy it it wasnt worth playing to begin with.
get the pc version cazul.
PC VERSION FOR MODS AND GOOD GRAPHICS.
The real question:WIll it be canon? and if so, does it matter? probably not
Given that they are extra missions, they probably won’t tie in with the story (much like the side ops in GZ).
WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH
Do you need to have Ground Zeroes installed on the system, or just the game saves?
No specifics yet, in fact these were just plans and we don’t know how it will end up in the final version, if it will be there at all.
I’d sure like to revisit Camp Omega, feels like revisiting Shadow Moses if only with less nostalgia.
I really hope this is true. I would be quite pleased.
on last year’s E3 trailer right before the “snake strangles chico scene”
you can se for a few seconds Snake and Kaz talking about something in
the same spot where Paz was chained
here look is the same room
I dunno. It doesn’t look 100% the same though at the same time, things can change drastically in a span of 9 years or so so who knows…
Nice find! At least the boxes look 100% identical.
my god … 0-0
I don’t think so, if you look at the other pictures of “the same toom” you’ll see bulkhead doors and the lines on the floor leading out of hangarbays on Motherbase too 😉
Check out Yongyea’s analysis of the Gamescom footage for more info on it 🙂
I have to agree with you.
good god…
Sorry man, but the Two Yelow bands on the Tube. they are On Diamon Dogs. were Quiet is been Tortured.
If it weren’t for the precondition that you’d have to own Ground Zeroes for this to be accessible, this would’ve rendered GZ COMPLETELY invisible… and obsolete… and a waste of arduously-attained cash.
*Not to mention, presumably–hopefully–, all of the added dimensions in TPP will transpose over to the Camp Omega revisit; so we can presuppose that the cardboard box, stun arm, decoys, EM gun, banana, n00dy mags, and all of the other inane concoctions present in PW and newly conceived for TPP will be available for utilization.
Can I PLEASE just have this game. RIGHT NOW!?!
I hope the Ground Zeroes suit is usable for The Phantom Pain!
His Ground Zeroes Suit and Phantom Pain Sneaking suit are the best gear for me 🙂

Don’t forget Diamond Dogs suit as well!
So many suits to choose from!

No need to mention the Diamond Dogs Bike Jacket, since is already confirmed.
I want that hyper sexy jacket :O !
They actually made it. It’s about $600 and very cool.
By Ground Zeroes suit don’t you mean the Peace Walker Sneaking Suit, because that what
GZ suit is, the Peace Walker Sneaking Suit.
don’t you mean his PEACE WALKER suit?
No love for the Battle Dress/Suit?

There you go just like Ground Zeroes JPN! 😛
Omg I would love to try some Japanese version of MGSV ;), especially if it really has English subtitles too! <(^O^<)
Man that audiodrama was epic. “SURVIVAL VIEWER!!”
This was originaly a standalone Drama CD and Kojima but it in to the JP version of ground zeroes.
I’m confused (though I shouldn’t be surprised by that fact since it’s Hideo Kojima we’re talking about). Wasn’t Camp Omega destroyed in Ground Zeroes? Or are those side missions considered spin-offs and not canon?
It was called pseudo history I think that happens before ground zeroes. Not sure but I think it’s not canon
Yeah, I’m guessing they’re not canon either.
The only way they could be canon is if they were kind of dreams that Big Boss was having during his coma xD.
I disagree. I think they did happen, but didn’t take place in Camp Omega. Psuedo Historical Recreation.
Those missions are not canon. The destruction of Camp Omega wouldn’t make sense neither before nor after rescue paz and chico main mission
Apart from the one where the camp get’s destroyed and deja/jamais vu, they could all make sense if they were prior to Paz and Chico’s imprisonment.
But yeah, the camp getting destroyed doesn’t really fit with the overall story.
Thanks for the reply.
Isn’t the GZ mission the only time Snake infiltrates the camp?
I’m not sure I understand your question but all missions in the Ground Zeroes game are in Camp Omega. It’s the only map in the game.
Yeah, but I meant in the story, he only goes to the camp once, right? So the other missions aren’t canon if that’s the case.
I guess so.
I disagree. I think they did happen, but didn’t take place in Camp Omega. Psuedo Historical Recreation, remember?
I wonder what (if any) will be connectivity availability between console generations? I remember a while back they said you could transfer the extra content for buying GZ early and your recruited soldiers from PS3 to PS4. But they never specified how that actually worked. Is this the content for buying the game early? Do people who bought GZ digitally get that content? Will the PS4 version of TPP recognize the PS3 save files of GZ?
What if I buy GZ for ps3 and TPP for ps4? 😮
It was already confirmed somewhere that extras you get from owning GZ is cross platform, both box and digital version
Excellent, as I’m in the same situation. I bought GZ for PS3 (physical) and Xbox360 (digital). I plan to get TPP in a PS4 bundle, assuming that does happen, but I pre-ordered the PS3 version just incase.
I apologize for this totally off-topic post, but I just stumbled upon this pretty funny 2013 April fools article about Silent Hill, that I hadn’t read. Got some funny bits, like David Hayter lol and release of early 2014 😛 yea right… But it ended up being true somewhat as Kojima is making it, although I wonder if the story will be like that in the real game ;D.
“In what has to be the biggest and most desired announcement by Silent Hill fans, Konami’s Hideo Kojima of Metal Gear Solid fame has officially announced his next project: Silent Hill.
Kojima expressed interest in the Silent Hill series some month ago and even the president of Konami, Tomoyuki Tsuboi asked him to make a Silent Hill game. It looks like those conversations have gone further than expected and a new entry in the series is in development. Kojima announced this
project at a hotel in Maine. A few select gaming journalist were invited for the reveal. I was luckily one of them.
Simply titled Silent Hill, Hideo Kojima’s take on the series involves a game developer with a dark
past. Frank Westinghouse, voiced and physically modeled after David Hayter, former-Solid Snake voice actor in the Metal Gear Solid series, will be protagonist of this reboot. Silent Hill marks the series return to Japanese development–something that fans have deemed necessary for years. Silent Hill will run on the FOX engine and feature key members from the series’ past, such as Masahiro Ito for art and design and Hiroyuki Owaku as co-writer (Team Silentious was used to name the group). The game is said
to be a next-gen title that will return the series to its roots. A-list celebrities such as Christian Slater, Tara Reid, Tori Spelling, and Sally Field will star as a supporting cast.
The story of the game is said to be one of social commentary and the state of the game industry. Due to selling only a handful of millions of copies, the protagonist loses his job and seeks a new calling. After a failed Kickstarter, Frank wanders the East coast in search of a new, innovative way to capture the attention of gamers. Frank’s journey leads him to Silent Hill where figments of his imagination of ghosts of his past
haunt him. In typical Silent Hill fashion, his journey is said to be terrifying and filled with figurative and literal demons. The announcement of the project was appropriately disturbing.
Within the hotel room where the reveal occurred, several gaming journalists including myself were told to sit on the bed and wait for the secretive Konami announcement. Some 30 minutes later Tomm Hulett, former Konami employee and Silent Hill series producer crawled out from under the bed–much to our terror–and screamed. Except this wasn’t that Tomm Hulett that I had knew, something about his appearance was off. He did not blink and his voice was different. He then spoke in an off-American accent about how Konami has asked him to revive Silent Hill. Of course we were all confused as Hulett
had left Konami in favor of employment at WarForward. With unblinking eyes, fake-Hulett sat down across from the bed in which us journalists sat with unease.
After 60 quiet seconds that felt like minutes, the perplexing figure spoke: “Silent Hill”. He then removed his face, revealing the smiling father of the Metal Gear series–my stomach turned as I noted the material of his mask did not resemble rubber. Hideo Kojima slowly looked toward the ceiling and laughed.
Some time later a television was brought into the room with the familiar Silent Hill logo. A man came along with the television and he began the demonstration as Kojima sat in his chair, unwavering and with the focus of a tiger approaching its prey. The presentation revealed that the Silent Hill game Kojima was showing was a reboot of the series, a fresh start. The presenter spoke to use with a paced speech as though he was translating the Japanese developer’s words. But Kojima did not speak. It was an odd way to announce a game but so is Kojima’s method.
Despite the confusing announcement, what I saw of Silent Hill looks amazing. That 1 minute of gameplay changed my life. Finally Silent Hill is back in Japan where it belongs. With Hideo Kojima directing and writing the game, Silent Hill is surely saved. Sadly, no digital screenshots were given to the press as Kojima wanted to release them by mailing printouts to the press. They only content given to us was a picture David Hayter, the star of the game. Expect Silent Hill to release in early 2014, after Metal Gear Solid 5.”
Interesting, this might explain that daytime torture and execution scene from the E3 2013 director’s cut trailer that was unused in Ground Zeroes.

I have a dude. Tpp comes only disc or is possible a digital version
Pretty sure it’s also downloadable
what if someone has GZ on PS3 and TPP on PC? willthe Extra content be available??
Big Boss has to go back…TO SAVE HIMSELF.
so deep i can see adele rolling !
I think that it won’t be anything huge, like Snake will remember his previous time @ Camp Omega according to each player’s playthrough..something like that
“something that hasn’t been done before in the industry”
Yea,,,Snake’s never remembered his previous time at Camp Omega in ANY other other before. XD
Pingback: Konami details data transfer from Ground Zeroes to The Phantom Pain | Metal Gear Informer
So, where is that now? There’s no Camp Omega in the game and no thing that has never been done before.
Probably got removed too
So whatever happened to this?
It didn’t make it into the game I guess. The article clearly says “That’s the current plan”.
During development plans can change.
Konami 🙁
What about the camp omega thing?
HMMMM oh my god
