Here is Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s 30 minute gameplay demo

During the latest episode of Kojima Station, the studio finally presented the E3 demo that was only shown to selected press on the show floor. Up until now, no more than a few hundred people have seen it, but now Kojima decided to let everyone have a taste of the game. The presentation is the same as the one shown at E3, so it’s narrated in English and played by Tan Ziang. Enjoy!

Update: Konami has published a high quality version of the demo:

Kojima also made some comments on Twitter shortly before showing the demo.

Unlike linear game, in open world game, we can’t use the method of creating one spot thoroughly and move to next spot. Instead we are required to create endless map and vast degree of action freedom on the field in order to accomplish gradually.

Thus showing the gameplay demo at this stage is still in early stage, but we do it just because we received high demand from users.

BUT FOX ENGINE WINS IN THE END…………….THANK YOU FOX ENGINE

      • Machine Gun Kid

This game is gunna be so awsome i dont even kno what to say or do anymore besides cry

        • flying_fox

Same here. I’m speechless. This was almost too good to be true and as I feared, I am now 100% sure that I WILL spend the rest of my life playing this game.

          • I hear ya. Can’t wait for more info on MGO, and I really hope they add a lot of character customization.
One thing that bugs me (just a little) is that you don’t have to convert the soldiers you fulton, to actually join your army.

          • Ravenous

That might be back for the full release of the game, or just changed to instantly let them assign the new soldiers for the demonstration

          • That’s what I’m hoping, but still no word.
I’ve been wondering why no ones asked about the player made missions at E3. Is that still a thing, or did they drop that?

          • flying_fox

Well, if I was left with a choice between joining Big Boss or becoming a diamond… I wouldn’t hesitate!

  • Altaim

    Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck… A M A Z I N G

  • Altaim

    now i cant wait anymore..

    • Schmojima

if I had to guess, i would say we get a release date for this years TGS…that wouldn’t be too far fetched…

  • Golgari

My jaw dropped. I liked everything though Fulton Recovery is too cheap in the game. You can fulton sheep, horse, car, soldiers… LOL

    • Datguy8923

I wish can fulton Mulan to my heart. 🙁

    • César H. Sandoval

Remember that Fulton costs money now, of course this being a demo it has unlimited GMP, but I don’t think the final game will be as cheap.

I love how Fulton also has a failiure rate now.

  • VicBoss

Amazing presentation !! I can easily understand the good reactions of journalist last week at E3 !!

  • Cartmangus

Why can’t I hold all these infiltration options??

That fucking gameplay demo. Scoping out that base, man, so many guards, them going off and on shifts. Sean guy saying the dumpster will be one of many ways to hide and interact with the environment. That fucking Motherbase, so cool. Seriously this shit is gonna be so much fun playing. Seriously loved just about everything they showed, looks crazy fun

Couple of negatives though. He got 36 000 GMP from those diamonds he picked up and Fulton costs you 300 GMP to use and there’s not any limit to how many you send up other than the GMP it costs.. Obviously you’re gonna spend GMP on more than the fulton but there needs to be some limit on this thing, that is just crazy.

Game ain’t out yet so this is one is just based off this demo alone but is Big Boss Link all of the sudden? nigga you need to speak some, this is an introduction to a mission where he’s saving his best bud and he doesn’t utter a word, Ocelot doing all the exposition. I don’t like that.

    • Fredy Carius

Keifer VA sessions are expensive, so now Big Boss have to talk less

      • Golgari

That’s not true and video shows it. He mo-capped the entire cutscene. Look at Big Boss face when he was with Ocelot. Big Boss’s face had top notch animation, besides this is a gameplay presentation and not a cutscene where characters talk a lot and even then look to all trailers. Characters don’t talk a lot in this game because of excellent mo-cap.

        • Anonymous GP Legend

There were moments where Ocelot seemed like he was asking Snake a question and Snake didn’t answer. It’s pretty obvious why.

And the mo-cap alone is costing them too you know, it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the reason why they cut down on his dialogue.

          • It’s not because they have to pay Kiefer. It’s because they’re taking kind of a different approach with the character, and with the storytelling in general.

          • Anonymous GP Legend

Right, and I’m sure that works great for PR too. But at the end of the day he is a Hollywood actor and it’s actually justified if they want to allocate the funds for his services. After all, just his name alone sells the product.

          • They made that decision before hiring Kiefer.

      • Schmojima

…nah, Konami literally throws money at Kojima for developing MGS V, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they even beat GTA5s developing costs; I obvsiously don’t know any numbers, but the budget must be huge, especially for this masterpiece.

        • Anonymous GP Legend

I highly doubt they’re spending as much as GTA, Rockstar was hiring multiple celebrities (as opposed to just one) and had huge assets. TPP is too but you can’t compare the two.

    • Golgari

I think this is for the demo purposes and i’m sure that 36000 GMP is not a lot. I think upgrading the base will cost a LOT of money. Don’t forget that you can build it and customize it. Probably you can buy items. Look, box costed 1000 GMP imagine if you can extract vehicles or prototyped weapons.

300 GMP is cheap but this is for the gameplay so Player could extract as much as possible to his base. Imagine if you Fulton everyone and for some reason you have not enough GMP and you just encountered elite scientist… You are done basically until you will find Diamonds.

      Balance issue.

      • Fredy Carius

in PW creating the last weapons in R&D were so expensive. Probably that’s where big part of the GMP will go in TPP as well

      • Cartmangus

I have no doubt there’s gonna be loads of things to spend GMP on. But Fulton is so cheap, it costs nothing in the grand scheme of things, that was just one diamond stash and it was 36k. I imagine upgrades on Motherbase are gonna be super expensive, meaning you’ll probably earn shitloads of GMP throughout the game and those petty 300 gmp it takes to fulton will mean absolutely nothing. It also seems like it doesn’t attract any attention whatsoever. Nobody at the base noticed a car flying sky high, well the guy right next to it did but yeah.. I’d much prefer it if they made it a bit more punishing to use.

Like people say the tranqulizer is OP, at least guards wake up from that, you can just clean house here and there will be nothing to worry about.

      • No Place For Hayter

I hope it remains plentiful because if not, then I can’t fulton ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING I FIND.

    • Schmojima

maybe they didn’t want to give away any story elements, so BB had to shut up for this demo…
it HAS to be like this, at least I sincerely hope so!

    • César H. Sandoval

Kojima has said multiple times that Big Boss will be mostly silent, I don’t like it either, but we better get used to it.

      • Daburcor

He never really said he’d be mostly silent, he just said he wouldn’t be needlessly wordy. That is a result of having fully motion captured acting. Snake talked so much before because technical limitations meant there was more he needed to convey verbally. So, WITH the mo-cap, instead of saying “No, I don’t like that idea! It makes me angry!” he can simply say “No.” and his face can accurately convey the rest. I guarantee you Konami will get their money’s worth out of Sutherland both vocally AND facially, and the game won’t suffer one iota.

        • César H. Sandoval

Is about the same thing, he said he will say more with expressions than with actual words this time around because of the new MOCAP tech, but after Ground Zeroes and the gameplay trailers, you can tell how Snake’s not gonna be saying much while the secondary characters like Miller and Ocelot will still be as wordy as every MGS character ever.

I fear instead of even saying “No!” like in your example, he’s just gonna shake his head after hearing 30minutes of classic MGS exposition by other characters, my point is, it feels awkward if BB is not gonna be as espresive and the others around him are saying twice as before, we better get more balance in the game’s dialogues, after all the other actors are also being face-mocaped, not just Sutherland.

          • Janeo

Remember we still have tapes big boss could do a lot of talking there like he did in GZ. Also he might just not be 100% comfortable with ocelot I mean he is the reason he wears that eyepatch, he might be talkative when he gets kaz back

          • César H. Sandoval

But tapes are an extra, we shouldn’t expect all the character devolpement to come from then and be gladly playing a mute hero in the whole game.

          • Janeo

I’m just saying the tapes are will be something extra where will hear big boss from, he will still talk a lot in the game hopefully. Maybe they just want to show off the facial capture in some scenes I liked it a lot in the demo but I agree he should’ve talked a little. He will talk a lot in the game that’s for sure might just be certain scenes where he isn’t talking.

          • No Place For Hayter

Yeah judging from what we have seen we wouldn’t even get a “no” from Big Boss, just a subtle frown.

        • Adrian Dallegrave

I think 80% of what Snake said in past games was useless things. It was always retorical as if he was thinking aloud. For example, he looks at a guard in front of a gate and then he says: Hmmm I should take this guard out so I can enter the gate. Since TPP is an open world game we won’t be hearing this kind of dialogue because we will choose our own paths. Kojima wants us to feel as if we were Snake. Snake will talk in cutscenes as always did but we just won’t have him speaking in those tutorial like codec conversations.

  • Marxal

Ugh the way Big Boss is so silent right now feels so irksome. He felt so reactionless when Ocelot handed him Kaz’s glasses. Still struggling to adapt to the changes I suppose.

    • John Doe

Still better than asking stupid questions and constantly repeating his interlocutor’s phrases like in previous games. -“We need to save Miller” -“Miller, huh?”

      • Marxal

Sure, but it still feels too wrongly silent; it’s his best friend and second-in-command he’s out there rescuing. Even if he didn’t speak but quietly sighed at the very least, just something.

I hope he picks up more dialogue, and I hope he becomes a bigger influence in the interactions rather than becoming what Solid Snake was originally intended to be; a rather bland, impactless character for the player to project themselves onto.

        • John Doe

Yeah, I understand what you’re talking about, mate. But I’m sure BB’s not always like that and we’ll hear Kiefer’s voice in all its glory, like at the and of new trailer (That “I’m always be with you” phrase was fcking powerfull!)

        • Brazillian

I know that feel, Marxal. But keep in mind E3’s mission (Phantom Pain) is right after BB’s coma. Big Boss is a different person now – a legendary hero who’s turning into a demon. That’s why he’s more silent now; he’s poisoning his own mind with revenge.

        • SolidKenny87

Since when was Solid Snake bland? (Besides the MSX games.) I actually felt there was more going on with him in MGS1 than Naked Snake in MGS3 (and I played MGS3 first.)

Edit: Remember the scene where Snake can shoot Liquid in REX’s cockpit, but refuses the player’s command, because he doesn’t want to kill his best friend (Gray Fox) too?
That wasn’t me projecting myself onto Snake. I was the one who wanted an easy shot at Liquid. But Snake refused my button command, because he values Fox too much as a friend.

Edit 2: UNLESS you specifically were referring to Snake in the MSX games. In which case, nevermind.

My personal opinion is that Kojima’s really cocky with facial capture and he wanted to write his characters without them saying things like “A Hind D?!” or “Personal Area Network, huh?” He wants to convey his characters more through their actions, which is something he’s been trying to do since at least MGS4. http://www.konami.jp/mgs4/uk/interview/03.html (Read question 3)

The scene where Big Boss rubs the ashes of his fallen comrades tells us more about his character than any monologue about how pissed off he is.

          • Marxal

When I said Solid Snake was supposed to be bland I was referring to Kojima’s original intentions for Snake as stated in one of his interviews located here; http://www.metalgearinformer.com/?p=13717
I wasn’t referring to how Solid exists in actuality; where I would agree he has a very strong personality.

      • César H. Sandoval

There’s no “better”, both extremes (Too talky or too silent) are bad IMHO.

I find it ironic how they get an famous and expensive voice like Sutherland’s, yet they really seem to put effort on you not getting to hear it.

        • John Doe

Well, the whole point of hiring Kiefer was his ability to act physically and do facial expressions properly, and we definitely see that he succeeded. So it’s not only about voice

    • crimsonfox

Well, they also did skip a tutorial. I could imagine them going over the basics and talking more about the mission before it begins.

  • QWERTY

I don’t like Fulton Recovery System. Like Kojima often says – Phantom Pain is serious game. I don’t want it!
I hope the player can call the chopper and take Soldiers to it.

    • Why does it matter? MGS has always mixed serious stories with silliness, it’s part of the series’ appeal. So you don’t like the cardboard box either?

      • QWERTY

Well, cardboard box is optional. You don’t need to use it. Many fans was asking Kojima about that. I’m OK with that.

Don’t get me wrong – I can’t wait The Phantom Pain. I’m just nitpicking 🙂

Fulton Recovery System was good to Peace Walker. But in newest MGS? Nope, because this MGS seems to be much more serious, even “realistic” than other games in the series.

Using that during the gameplay can destroy great atmosphere created by cassette tapes and cutscenes.

        • Schmojima

I really don’t mind, and as nyxus pointed out correctly, this is just what mgs has always been… despite the fact that you sneak by some soldiers hiding in a cardboard box, this game will be supposedly pretty cruel and graphic in terms of violence

        • Ravenous

Well ofcourse you can just call in a chopper and extract them that way instead, so Fulton is fully optional aswell 😉
Don’t know about vehicles and animals, but I bet you can make your own vehicles in mother base anyways, so you should be able to get away with not using Fultons at all

        • No Place For Hayter

I’m completely happy with fulton because it makes for great gameplay and makes sense on many levels of being able to manage everything in games as one character, I am also completely happy with it because if MGSV tried to make itself completely realistic I would hate the game, there is a certain line you can’t cross when making something realistic, and that line is the difference between fun and good additions to stupid, pointless, are just simply burdening additions (or subtractions) simply for the sake of realism, and I’m happy to see that MGSV is not crossing that line.

But everyone is different not everyone is going to love MGSV 100%, so nitpicking is not a bad thing, everyone has an opinion, I’m just putting out there what why I like the fact that MGS still has these elements in it.

      • crimsonfox

        Tell em Nyxus!

      • No Place For Hayter

I personal can’t stand people who want “realism” over anything else in their game, do they want their games to be fun? no. Do they want their games to make them laugh? no. Do they wan to escape from reality into a emotional and awesome story? no. They want REALISM, having to much “realism” is a VERY quick way from having a great game, to having a uninspired, uninteresting, boring, piece of shit. Also when going “realistic” almost EVERY developer out there goes so far into what they think is realistic they end up not being realistic, according to the game industry realism is “colourless grey world”, “5 foot fall will break your legs” and “your injuries will heal themselves, but to become 100% you need a healing item”, seriously? I do not want any of that in any of my games, and unfortunately instead of using one of the most realistic health systems I have seen in a, the health and injury system in MGS3, MGSV opted out for regenerating health for “immersion” and “realism”; I have had more immersion and realism with the health system in MGS3 than I have had with all the games I have played with regenerating health combined.

Wow that’s like two rants in one day for me, lol.

Long story short, “I completely agree with Nyxus”.

    • ImminentBread

You can still call Morpho, and I don’t see why they would take out the ability to load people on board. This might actually be more efficient than Fultoning everyone if you can get enough people together; if I remember right, calling a chopper costs 1000 GMP while the Fulton costs 300. If you can bring 4 or more soldiers/prisoners together, it would be cheaper per soldier to call the chopper.

I agree with Nyxus about the Fulton system not being all that out of place in this game. You have cardboard boxes, horse poop, weaponised supply drops — what’s a strange but real recovery method on top of that?

    • CrazyGuy207
    • César H. Sandoval

The bases are getting too big for manual extraction in TPP, not like GZ was… I guess that’s why Fulton recruitment came back.

      • Shadow Rex

I do wonder what the cap will be for staff in TPP.

    • Shadow Rex

I see where you are coming from QWERTY, for me I kinda feel a bit that way as well, now that Fulton doesn’t have ammo either, even though it has the cost. I like working to get my soldiers and I love the challenges metal gear presents. Fulton looks like it makes it a little too easy to amass stock and soldiers, especially after I’ve extracted 500+ soldiers in GZ by helicopter. The thing though that I think may balance this out for us or me at least, is soldiers and their rank. It is still going to be difficult to make your way into a base on hard and extract the awesome S rank soldiers. I don’t mind Fulton soldiers as far as realism goes I’m just going to imagine a c-130 is flying around picking up Fultons with a sky-hook :), but one Fulton on larger items seems a bit weird, I still would love a smoke designation and helicopter tow cable system for that. Maybe I’ve just played too much Arma over the years to hahaha. It is MGS though, so I know I’m going to love it no matter what.

    • gaf

What exactly are you expecting? What do you mean by “serious game”? Removing all the supernatural and fantasy elements from the game like metal gears, psycho mantis, people with abilities like Volgin? Do you want the game to be turned into another bland western copy of splinter cell or something? If that’s what you want then you can f**K right off to something else. TPP is a continuation of PW both in story and game play, if you don’t like that then don’t play it.

  • Fredy Carius

The 30 min demo was so rushed that when i am playing i’ll take at least 2 hours to do the same things he did.
I sense i’ll put waaaay more time in this game than i’ve put in Peace Walker

    • Schmojima

Yes!! …that will consume HUGE parts of my life, I guess…

  • XIFF-5

    MGSV > The whole world.
This game is easily the best game for 15 years later.

  • Hellrasinbrasin

…I’m not opposed to the idea of a Silent Master (Big Boss) The days of chatty Big Boss ended with Peace Walker.

    • César H. Sandoval

May be a plus, because we get to remember how Hayter was fired even less if BB’s not talking that much.

  • ObsessedGeorge

Dat Moderbase!!! I’m stunned! This whole gameplay presentation has hyped me soooo much! And so it is confirmed that we will go back to Camp Omega and fulton the CP radio operator, since we can hear him in motherbase. “All fireteams, this is CP! COMBAT POSITIONS!!!”

    • Datguy8923

For the first time, it feels great being the guys that were infiltrated…Wait that didn’t sound right…

      • ObsessedGeorge

I want to see how that will work. Will an enemy take control of his MGO character and invade our base, or will it be a random player’s mother base army attacking?

    • Ravenous

      Might be a placeholder?

      • ObsessedGeorge

Either way, l like this radio operator’s voice. Another line that is my favorite is “Focus your fire on that enemy chopper!”.

    • No Place For Hayter

Yeah, I found it really out of place for the Camp Omega radio operator to be the same in the Diamond Dogs base, if that is indeed the radio operator for Diamond Dogs than I will have to KILL many people for it, not that its a bad voice (I think it was great in Ground Zeroes) but there is to many things wrong with it being used for Diamond Dogs.

      • ObsessedGeorge

I think it ties really well with DD structure. This echo from the speakers that spreads in a moment of danger is awesome!

  • zero

Amazing! And now the waiting game again 🙁

  • Snow Falcon

Before I watch this, is there anything that could be spoilers? Either big or small?

    • Janeo

If you have been following the game there is no spoilers even if you haven’t been following it there is pretty much no spoilers it’s a mission made just for e3

      • Snow Falcon

        Alright, thanks guys.

        • Shadow Rex

Yeah I had my cursor ready over the mute button in case something in Ocelots dialogue hinted at a spoiler because I heard Game Jurnos say there was a spoiler. Guess I’ve been following MGS TPP a lot more then them because I didn’t get anything spoiled, besides my pants.

    • Solid Snakes Revenge

I didn’t feel like there were any spoilers. It just pretty much showed off some of the new things you can do in the game.

  • Janeo

It’s not out yet but it may already be my favourite game ever made. I can’t wait to see what happens when you get attacked is big boss going out to meet the boats or the helicopters coming to attack there is so much cool things in this game, I will feel bad for kaz afterwards but he is going to have to wait a long time for me to come save him because I am going to be blown away by everything it might take a while to realise I am finally playing the game, I’m sure I will make it to him on three days though maybe.

  • Yaro

I dont like the fulton either. Its funny but it feels out of place. It worked on peace walker.Peace walker still had the campy MGS thing but this game is different. It breaks the forth wall too much in my opinion. I know about comedy in MGS I’ve played all games. And whyle Ive like the jokes sometimes it something that really ruined MGS IV for me (Akiba).
I also think that the fulton destroys one of the stealth mechanics on MG. Which is the decision to leave a body behind or hide it from enemies that are roaming the area, even more now that they change shifts wich is so cool.
I suggested an idea to Kojima Prod via twitter. I said that it would fit the game a more realistic approach. What if instead of using the fulton on guards and vehicles. That we put some sort of marking on them. So after we finish the mission they get picked up by a team from mother base. Succes of the pickup depends how clean that area (not base that would be too much) is. That adds another strategy to the team. You can even add an extra sauce to the idea if youre prompt at the end of the mission if you want to have the extraction and you can see the safe %. You decide… if it fails youll loose the recruits and might even loose some soldiers.
If you do an airstrike you would also loose the recruits.
I really think that this is an addition to the gameplay that would make it cooler. I think that it is not too difficult to program. I think it even makes the gameplay cooler and avoids abuse.

    • Cartmangus

I think that’d be a good idea actually. I don’t have a problem with fulton being unrealistic, sure it looks silly as all hell but I want MGS to have these silly dumb things in them. That said the reason I don’t like the fulton system is that it is way overpowered and is in desperate need of balance.

It pretty much completely trivializes guards, like I mentioned earlier with the tranqulizer you’d at least have to keep check on that guard and make sure he didnt’ wake up and caught you off guard, you could’ve killed him in the first place and not have to deal with that scenario but then that’s going lethal, so if you wanted to go non lethal that wasn’t an option. Fulton gets rid of the guards completely and they never come back, and we have an unlimited supply of them, AND nobody hears their screams or sees the big ass balloon flying up in the sky.. it’s ridiculously OP.

      • Raymondius

I agree with you, it’s too OP, but I think they have stated earlier that the enemies can actually hear the screams of them being ‘kidnapped’ if they are nearby.

        • Cartmangus

Didn’t get that impression from the gameplay demo at least. I guess it depends on what they think is nearby. In my opinion sending a guard sky high in that tightly guarded base we saw in the video should attract just about every guard outside.

          • César H. Sandoval

The demo could be set on “easy” things are boun to change before they reach the final stage of the game.

    • Yaro

Kojimas original aproach was not to have box. Because it would affect the tone. Now we have the box and the fulton. Im corncerned that Kojima is changing his original vision to please some people… I hope he doesnt change any more besides that

  • kiki

I found light reflection by fulton at 21:50. impressive.

    • flying_fox

      Impressive indeed.

Interesting how your screenshot shows the duality of the Fox Engine. Breathtaking lighting overall, but horrible polygonal lamp in the middle. 🙂

It’s all an illusion, and when it works, it works really well. I love the engine for that.

  • FRANKASTER

Dat Drawing distance…, now I officially need a PS4 since on ps3 you will get stuff popping everywhere and soldiers appearing from thin air (it happens when you try speed runs on GZ on ps3 all the time)…
anyways just the scope of this game is mind blowing and all the things I hated from GZ are now “fixed” like the fake doors everywhere in camp omega… or that you can actually use dumpsters as hiding places instead of BG escenary… shame this game won’t come to Wii U because it might made great use of the iDroid since on my ps3-selfphone set never syncs for some reason…

    • XIFF-5

Sometimes happens on PS4 as well by the way :/
But it is not a big deal since it happens few times, and also I hope they fix the hair shadow.

      • César H. Sandoval

Yeah I also fear this is gonna be clunky on PS3, time to save some money!

  • Datguy8923

    GOTY 2015.

    • César H. Sandoval

      GOTY 1984.

Fixed that for you, bro. 😉

      • Datguy8923

        :O

    • No Place For Hayter

Game of the Year, every year.

  • ywsbek

This looks like GZ. Bored within 2 days. A.I. has heightened senses but are still idiots, nothing compared to mgs4. Bring the knife back.

    • Datguy8923

      Your post bores me already.

      Fite me. >:O

On a serious note. It’s still only a demo gameplay and for all we know they dumbed down the AI just to get through the demonstration. However even MGS4 AI can easily be exploited.

      • ywsbek

Go ahead and pledge your fan boy allegiance.

        • Datguy8923

Ok dude. You can go sit and be a sour patch kid, while the rest of enjoy fultoning sheep and troll the Soviet Army.

          • ywsbek

Let me know how many days you fulton those sheep.

          • Datguy8923

I’m guessing too many days. Hey Big Boss is already a demon you know: http://a.disquscdn.com/uploads/mediaembed/images/1095/6905/original.jpg

          • ywsbek

Simply just a msg to the devs that not every1 is drooling.

          • Datguy8923

If you wanna message to the devs then I suggest you get on Twitter and say it to Kojima directly, or email Kojima Productions.

          • ywsbek

Been done. They selectively choose what they can only answer on their podcast. BTW they stated something like they have a guy 24-7 on social media.

          • Ravenous

Then why bother making PMS-style comments on a fansite? Oo

          • ywsbek

            I pledge allegiance……
Because this series was once good. Come back at me when you realize that.

          • Datguy8923

            It’s not good. It’s great. 😀

          • Ravenous

All i’ve found to complain about in MGSV so far are: diving off of a roof and landing on your feet, not enough dialogue from BB and not being able to crawl SLOWLY…Other than that I am pretty impressed by what they’ve done and showed so far, so pledge your allegiance to an ass (the donkey-kind) for all I care, I’m going to keep being alittle excited every time I read or hear about MGSV, WEEEEEEEEEeeeeeee *runs back to see if PythonSelkan’s Venom Snake video is out yet, again*

          • ywsbek

Now we see who’s PMSing. You know what they say about simple minds and amusements.

          • Ravenous

Hehe, my post seemed like a 15-year old girl crying to you?…….XD
Yeah simple minds indeed, bitching about a game on an unofficial fansite, it’s almost like complaining about the customer-service of your ISP to the modding community of The Elderscrolls series, you might be able to vent alittle, but what good does it do? XD

          • Demon Snake

Hello i’ve been going to this site for a while now, just haven’t posted anything yet.
@ywsbek:disqus Why do you think this series was once good? Also what game made you think this? Just wondering, i’m a huge fan btw and you won’t convince me otherwise.

          • ywsbek

after several months of GZs i think the fluidity and reponsiveness of movement i.e. turning, crouching, laying from mgs2,3,4 is gone but replaced with a heavier feel thats supposed to resemble realism but is a distraction as it is a constant battle with trying to control snake rather than interact with the environment. auto standing in GZs behind cover is good if you want to get alerted, replacing fpv peaking. sniper gun is extremely unfriendly because there is no return to 3rd person aimed view without putting the gun away which happens to be horrible for multiple targets as you have to either use scope to travel to the next target or unequip and realign. extremely time consuming and not very enjoyable but rather avoid all together. i’ll just spray n pray like everyone else. cross hairs are not cross hairs but feels like a guessing game or looks like a grenade launcher. only thing you can do is holdup in GZs as cqcs are time consuming so i spent 15mins on the GZ mission holding up like 20 ppl and that gets old really fast. not to mention disappearing stunned bodies. but knife was a different flavor in the old games that gets your heart pumping as you prey on them and judging from the demos it doesnt look like its making a comeback but still a demo so we could dream. also the AI would pursue you such as if you were in a tunnel they would throw grenades at you. here, just go hide in a tunnel or corner and they just leave you alone as they watch you hide. but dont worry, sheep recovery makes up for these.

          • Sivolc

Relax man, I think in TPP they will fix all those litlle issues.

          • ywsbek

            2cents: i doubted but hope you’re right

          • Sivolc

Just think about it, GZ was a prologue and they listened to all the complaints from the players, so all those little things will be fixed in TPP.

          • Datguy8923

            BECAUSE.

    • Yaro

The AI smarter in MG4 are you insane? This guys can spot you a mile away in hard!! They know how to hide!

      • ywsbek

i disagree. heightened senses but not smarter. mgs2,3,4 was my life for several years.

  • Datguy8923

There’s only one thing that confuses me and that is the location of mother base. Seeing that we can travel to and from Afghanistan via helicopter, and the base itself is out at sea, and Afghanistan is land locked, the only viable place to put a base is in the Arabian Sea. However I’m not confident if there is a military helicopter model that can traverse over the sea, and then over Pakistan, and then to the specific area of operations in Afghanistan with enough fuel for one trip let alone a return trip. Then again we do have giant robots of death and Psycho Mantis in this series so a very fuel friendly chopper is not out of the ordinary I guess.

Diamond Dogs investing in green technology eh?

    • Ravenous

Yongyea speculates that mother base could be located of the coast of eastern Africa to make it more believable that choppers can fly without refueling between the jungles in Africa and Afghanistan, and I can’t argue with that way of thinking 😉

      • Datguy8923

I think that makes a trip to Afghanistan even more not viable in reality via chopper.

It would be cool though if Diamond Dogs operated mini bases in areas of operation, and Mother Base served as HQ.

        • Ravenous

Yeah, I’m having some trouble getting the distances to fall in under “plausible”, but it does make more sense to have MB by the northern edge of East-Africa considering that the parts of Africa we’ve seen is covered in palms and lush green vegetation not just sand and rocks like most of North Africa, and that the facility housing the metal gear we saw in the trailer quite possibly is where BB sets up Outer Heaven which is supposed to be in South Africa 😉

  • CrazyGuy207

I have to say, I’m kind of disappointed that it doesn’t look like this has been implemented. Also, unlike Ground Zeroes, I’m hoping you can call in Morpho, hop in, and then open the iDroid and call it in elsewhere if you understand what I’m trying to say. Sort of like fast travel. Am I making sense? I’m also very curious about how talking with characters will work. Pressing L1 and choosing only a few options, going up to them and starting a cut-scene-like chat, or what?

    • Datguy8923

You mean use the helicopter to travel to other locales? I’m sure Kojima mentioned it.

      • CrazyGuy207

Like hoping on Morpho with triangle (or Y), and then “calling it in” on a different part of the map, then getting off.

        • Datguy8923

Ah I see. Well they haven’t mentioned a release date yet, so who know’s maybe they still got a lot of work left to do. Hopefully the thing that you mentioned is among that work to be completed.

    • PrinceHeir

      They really should implement this!

  • CrazyGuy207

This would make it harder, but in a good way.

  • Batzi

Simply mind blowing! This is easily the best game shown at E3 and the best in the series! The possibilities with those gameplay mechanics are endless! That Mother Base is what I always wished for in PW and now it has become a reality! Thank you Mr.Kojima! We all love you!

  • MarisBro

I really liked this gameplay.Bigbos sfacialanimation looks great.

  • Ary Holmes

Thanks Kojima For 30 minute gameplay demo, You know what we all want. So amazing…
I hope on the game screen displays the time, and displays the time taken by air support (artillery) and supply item to arrive at the location we wanted, a countdown time. I think the time required by the support team to send the supply item too quickly, and of course the enemy can see and suspicious with the fall of the item..
I hope Mr Kojima read this..

  • BigBoss_88

Oh my god, that 30 min looked incredible :D. Now I’m even more excited for TPP! So many new strategies, upgraded stuff and Mother Base building / fulton recovery being back is excellent. I loved PW because of building your own army :). But in this they’ve made it so much deeper, goddamn… GOTY 2015!
Phantom cigar is nice addition too, also I think they will improve/fix some stuff as this isn’t complete yet.

Those who don’t like the Fulton Recovery being back in TPP. Well I don’t think you HAVE to use it, you can mostly just play not using it if Fulton bothers you that much :). Just like you can choose to play without slowmo. Although not sure what will happen to your Mother Base if you don’t upgrade it with Fulton items. I hope they change it to like it was in Peace Walker, that there was a certain limit in Fulton Recovery…I think? Like 12 uses or something for a mission so you have to think what you will use it on.

One thing I still wanna say is that I do hope Big Boss talks more ;D, but he didn’t talk much in Ground Zeroes and I was still fine with that. It was just a little weird. That being said, there was maybe too much codec conversations in the older MGS games and kind of broke the flow of the game. So I understand why they went to less cutscenes and no codec conversation screens kind of style. Big Boss talks less in V, but I’m sure Sutherland still have plenty of great/epic lines that he will get to say. Big Boss just been through so much crap, that he isn’t in a talkative mood. I trust Kojima knows what he is doing <(^O^<) .

    • No Place For Hayter

Yeah it looks fricken awesome, I was like “why did it end? I wasn’t done playing…. I mean watching, lol” all in all that demo was amazing, it’s gonna make me go back and play some MGS games again, lol, because I just can’t wait.

Yeah I don’t know why Big Boss is so quiet, judging from the trailers we have seen he does talk a decent amount but they just don’t show any of it, it makes it feel like Big Boss is just out of it, Ocelot was having a one sided conversation with Big Boss, I understand Big Boss talks less, but from both GZ and from what I have seen in actual gameplay for TPP Big Boss barely talks at all, even when it is appropriate, I mean Kojima ditched his old voice actor for a big name Hollywood one, you think he would at least want to use him. I personally don’t like Sutherland’s voice acting in MGSV but I think it is a bigger problem when Kojima thinks he can replace nearly all dialogue with facial expressions, people have both facial expressions and talking, you cannot replace one with the other, new technology allows us to ADD another element to the humans in games to add many new layers of immersion and realism, not to REPLACE elements with new elements, I mean I couldn’t just stop talking nearly all together because I have facial expressions I can make, to fully express oneself you need both verbal and physical communications, in the past video games could only convey the verbal, now we can do both verbal and physical, but Kojima is simply replacing the verbal for the physical and I think to fully express a characters emotion you cannot do that, Big Boss talking less is a good idea but from what I have seen (and played in GZ) Kojima has taken the “Replace talking with facial expressions” too far and has left us with a bit of an empty character; Kojima is doing excellent on nearly all fronts, even with the rest of the characters, the only character that Kojima is breaking with the mentality of “replacing verbal with facial expressions” is Big Boss, and this really gets to me because Big Boss is the ONE character I want to see the most from and hear the most from. There is my rant for the day 🙂

      • BigBoss_88

Nice reply :), was good reading. Yes Big Boss is the one character for me too, that I wanna hear most from. One of the best game characters for me ever But I guess we should just wait and see how the game turns out to be :D. TPP is going to be long I think, so I believe Big Boss will talk pretty much, but not sure if enough for some fans. Part of the older MGS games I love about are the codec conversations :), like MGS3 and PW Hayter’s performance as Big Boss, I mean he talks a lot. But anyway, I do like the new approach of MGSV after getting used to it in GZ and fingers crossed TPP will be another masterpiece :). Another reason I love MGS, each game is much different from earlier game ^_^.

        • No Place For Hayter

Judging from the trailers we have seen Big Boss should talk more than we have seen, because even though the trailers are filled with music we see Big Boss’s mouth move a lot even though we have no game audio going, the best is the E3 2014 extended trailer, that is where we see his mouth move the most. Yeah TPP looks to be huge so there will probably be enough time for Big Boss to say all he needs to, hopefully, I am looking forward to the many surprises in TPP.

Agreed one of the things I love about MGS is that every game is its own game, each game is different and yet it still has what makes it a MGS game.

  • I like the fact that other players can attack your Mother Base, I just hope it can be turned off, like with the online functions of Watch Dogs.

    • CrazyGuy207

      Mother base is being Hacked!

    • No Place For Hayter

If all else fails, play offline, I know I will.

      • Yeah, of course, I’m not that lazy that I wouldn’t just do that, but it would just be easier to just turn the function off 😀

  • Yaro

Ha! Gotcha sneaky guys from Kojima productions! The gameplay footage is pre recorded. Jackie si not really playing. Compare it to the iphone photage from E3 and its the same. I was wondering how the timed the weather and all that. Doesnt matter anyways. But I fount it funny that I noticed it.

    • Janeo

Actually I’m pretty sure Jackie was playing, he is just doing everything the same way he did it at e3. Didn’t he say he spent over 300 hours preparing the demo so I’m pretty sure he knows every inch of the map and can do the same thing every time. As for the weather and things maybe it is a tweaked version of the game or a sandstorm always comes when you first start playing

  • Stephen Gomez

just wanted to point out something so hope someone else but me see it but when he enter the mother base menu to put some guys in the intel unit, did anyone notice the icon with “???” as the name and no description? It is literally hidden just for the sake of not showing it,something Kojima wants to not reveal yet?

    • Most likely, I did notice it myself, and I think it’s either something he doesn’t want to reveal right away, or something not made yet.

      • Stephen Gomez

its also hard to tell from the icon to,only thing missing is mess hall but that icon doesn’t fit messhall and messhall is obviously gone especially with no more psyche management and such, brig also isn’t show too but the brig is just a jail and the mysterious “???” has 5 soldiers already in it,so im curious to know.

  • Yaro

I just sent an email to Kojima Productions with my corncerns about the Fulton Recovery. I think its a big issue. And that it breaks the mechanics of the game in terms of tone and the stealth system. Its not about being fan boys and like everything they show us. Its about helping them making the best game possible. I loved everything about the demo… but that just threw me off. And it a biggie… it is something that will be there throughout the whole game. Theres no choosing not to use it, not if you want to build up mother base.
I gave them my critique, but I also offered a solution. Which is super simple. Get rid of the fly animation. Just mark the guys and after the mission is complete they get picked up by an extraction team. You dont even need to show that extraction team just a pop up like the other that says extraction team succeded to extrack this percentage of soldiers and assets.
    Thats all.
I really hope they read my letter. I know and I bet that those ballons will throw a lot of people off. It worked on Peace Walker but it doesnt work here.
THeyre making a beautiful game. The most that Ive been exited before. I dont want it to loose so much just because some silly mechanic and an easter egg from peace walker.
I also told them Im fine with the box. You can choose when to use it. I also told them I liked the fulton delivery system even when it landed on the guard. So Im not talking about removing all the comedy here. Its just too much in my opinion.

    • Michael Montanez

You don’t really have to use it to build your mother base. In GZ you would put people on a helicopter so I assume you can use a chopper to extract as many people as you want. It will just be a pain in the ass since the game is so big but the option is there.

      • Yaro

Yeah but putting them on hellicopter takes a hell of a lot of time. And it has to be done fast or people wont do it. Remember the game is huge and Kojima already said that hes afraid people wont finish the damn thing. So the solution has to be around the mechanics which they already have. Or it would brake their programming and probably the gameplay that they crafted. Thats why I said. Keep the kinda fulton thing… but with a different presentation. You dont have to reprogram much.

        • thetrooper1989

          I downvoted you btw

          • Yaro

            How mature.

          • Yaro

And I prefer kiefer sutherland doing the voice better than Hayter. You can downvote me again if you wish. David is a great guy but yeah.

          • Briiiiiiiiiiiian

I agree with you to a point. I think Sutherland is doing a great job from what I’ve heard so far.
I got a free digital copy of Peace Walker HD when I bought the download version of Ground Zeroes (Two games for €20!). I haven’t played Peace Walker before, just started it last night and I started to understand some of the backlash against Sutherland. I will miss Hayter’s version of Snake, he is pretty inseparable from the character at this stage, but his delivery is very exaggerated, almost cartoony. It’s worked well with the previous games but I understand why the role was re-cast.
I can’t imagine Hayter voicing Snake in Ground Zeroes without drasically altering the atmosphere that Kojima was trying to create.

My early thoughts on the FRS from playing Peace Walker is that it’s a mechanic designed specifically with the limitations of a hand-held platform in mind. The game removes familiar mechanics from previous games (crawling, moving bodies) and is designed with base building in mind and is more arcade style game.
I’m loving it so far, but I do think that part of what works so well in Ground Zeroes is that you can incapacitate a guard but you have to remember his whereabouts in case he wakes up etc.
If I can incapacitate a guard and remove him from the equation with FRS, I don’t have to worry about him waking up or another guard finding his body and I’m a little concerned about how that will change gameplay.
I’m presuming at this point that guard shift changes will counter this. Also, I imagine the recovery success rate will vary more than it does in the demo, and guards will probably spot it more often.
Someone already mentioned as well the fact that you won’t want to crowd your base with low level soldiers and I’m hoping these factors will provide some balance to the mechanic.

          • Yaro

Totally agree. Hayter was got more and more cartoony in each game. He was finding a voice that was iconic and got it. But it really doesnt fit the new game… I think his best performance was in the first game which was more low key. MG4 have some great deliveries but some other cartoony ones.

But anyways about the Fulton. Yeah. I totally agree. I really hope that theres some control and that you dont spend the time zipping everybody to motherbase. So lets see how it goes. My big worry is how many of this type of funny things are going to come out in the game.

One of my fears is to get more stuff like the Akiba wedding right the climax, the melodramatic Otacon crying when Naomi dies.

Some people like that stuff…probably people who also like Tidus on FFX. I like a lot of the MG campyness but I have my limits.

          • Briiiiiiiiiiiian

The camp stuff is still among my favourite things about the franchise, I’d be disappointed if The Phantom Pain didn’t feature the same quirkiness, but I think the series reached a sort of critical mass in some respects with MGS4.
I still love that game, I still play it quite a lot, but by my second playthrough I was skipping cutscenes, which I never did on previous entries in the series.

I still have huge faith in Kojima though, glad I have PW to play through for the first time to tide me over for a little while as I wait for TPP.

          • Yaro

I love some of the campy as well… just not all of it. MGS 4 really disappointing me. There are a couple of things that I liked some that I loved and some that I hated to death. The ending with Big Boss was one of the most amazing things in the series for me. I also really like first act and the beauty and the beast concept.

But anyways. I have huge faith in this game trust me. This is the MG game that Ive been most excited. And I think its a really special game. I bet that its going to be my favorite one, just because I can see where Kojima is going. Hes going all the way no strings attach. And hes being very ballsy… so… I have faith besides the fact that I dont like the idea of the fulton if its abused.

    • Invader_skoodge

Well, if you remove all the silly aspects of the game, it’s hardly a “MGS” game. In Ground Zeroes, the story is pretty grim, but you get moments like knocking soldiers out with an empty magazine makes their heads go *PING* Kojima said it’s going to be a dark game so he wants to put in bits of campy fun to balance out people’s psyche when playing the game. As far as your solution for this, I’m sort of okay with the flying animation, and it would be tedious for me to wait till the end for pick up. You can see it takes a while for them to get to base and if you wait till the end, it loses that “did the balloon make it” feeling when the mission is still going on.

      • Yaro

I’m not saying remove all funny aspects. Read carefully. There is a limit of how funny you can be without destroying the tone of the game. Throwing magazine at guards is fine. Shiting horses are fine. The box is kinda fine. Kept you waiting huh? its fine. Diarrhea guy in the toilet on Deja Vu is fine. What is not fine is those balloons zipping people away with the whoopieee. Its funny but it doesn’t fit at all. Its something you’ll do over and over again and the dramatic feeling of the game is lost from cut scene to gameplay. I know what Kojima said and I agree. He said that it was a technique Hitchcock used. And its fine. But Hitchcock wouldn’t put a flying goat after the murder scene in the bathroom.

You wouldn’t have to wait for pickup. You finish your mission and the succes message is there right with your ranking. Why would you want to know before if youre on the mission and not at mother base?

        • Invader_skoodge

Whelp, This game series always let’s you know it’s a game. “Snake, Press The Action Button.” So I don’t where the logic lies in trying to ‘fix’ game mechanics. Game controls would be a different thing, where if it needs improvement, you let them know. As far as the pick up system you devised, it’s just another statistic on your mission complete screen? That takes away the whole, fulton success percentage, dealing with dynamic weather and things that makes you think twice about using it. But oh well, those are my thoughts on it. I’m not dwelling on this, we should all focus on a release date. 1984??

          • thetrooper1989

I can’t believe he’s trying to remove the fulton. I loved it, its spectacular.

          • Invader_skoodge

The majority, myself included, are fine with it. It’s okay to not like it. But trying to remove it, it’s just selfish.

          • thetrooper1989

It really is, i’ve always dreamed of seeing the fulton system take place in a grander scale for next gen consoles. A lot of people have.

          • Yaro

What do you like about the fulton? The animation? or the gameplay. I want the gameplay to stay. just not the animation. Defending the fulton because of an animation and a whoopiee doesnt make sense to me. If it is gameplay that we are talking about I can understand.

          • Yaro

Its not being selfish… Its not like I have the final say of the game. I’m just another fan like you guys expressing my opinion and giving feedback to make the best game possible. That is my opinion and Im aware that some people like it… I just dont. The rest of the game I love. The fnal desission is Kojimas and I dont even think that he considers changing it. Im just putting my imput as many many others will. He listens he has proven that and he will make a desission that will be for the best of the game. I really think its a tool that we dont need. The way it is right now. Takes a lot of fun out of the game. Why do you guys want it? Cause it makes you laugh? in a 100 hours of gameplay in it will wear out. And I would rather feel inmersed in the stealth than having the experience interrupted for a silly joke (which I dont deny its funny as hell).

And yes Im aware that metal gear reminds you its a game. press action button, turn the console off. I have played all metal gear games including the NES ones. But you guys cant deny that this game is different from the others. And to tell you the truth I think its a very special game and it shows. It shows that Kojima is putting a lot of love in it. Unlike MG 4 which some say he didnt event wanted to do. Look at the damn trailer. See how powerfull it is… tell me that you wanna go sending sheeps to the sky after that. By no means I say take AAALLL funny jokes out. Ofcourse not. You need balance. But like I said… its too much.

          • Yaro

I can understand why you want to keep it. Its just my opinion. You can write to them how much you love it as much as I did told them how much I didnt like the idea.

          • tom

Well that’s your opinion and all but your idea sucks, sure how people yell when they’re being extracted away is silly (especially after they have been knocked out), but frankly that’s trivial and there’s no good reason to remove fultoning. If you don’t like don’t use, I really hope kojipro ignores petty complaints like yours.

          • Yaro

So any opinions that are not yours is petty. Excuse me for giving feedback in a game I care for.
My idea is not stupid. I bet that if I reversed it and said… man marking those enemies and having them be extracted after the mission is complete is very lame…. lets just do this. Lets just tie some baloons on their waist and lift the magically trough the air so they can be lift to mother base… and whyle we are at it. Lets make them scream yayyy.. oh and lets do that to cars, tanks and whatever else you know… size matters not.

Which one sounds more stupid? And let me tell you I was not saying it was stupid. I just said it is a bad idea.

          • Yaro

You can have the percentage. In fact you can even make it cooler. If a guard wakes up he can notice the marker and remove it. The same if a guard wake the other guard up. You can also have a percentage of succes depending on how clean the area is because of the enemies around that youve taken out.

You are telling me. You are willing to sacrifice the action of hiding enemies. Keeping track of them so other guards doesnt find them for the fulton? I loved hiding enemies in the grass in GZ and now we can use the Dumpsters!? WIth that fulton no one would bother to do that again! Because you have to use the fulton, its a central part of the game using it. Its not like a side thing you do. We are trading something very valuable in the gameplay of the game.

You all people complained greatly about the knock on the wall. Why cause its cool he does it? NO! Because it adds a level of gameplay and strategy to the game. And Kojima took it away. And people missed it because they felt limited. Now we have an overpowered skill that makes the game a whole lot easier and looses a lot of its core of leaving no traces behind.

    • thetrooper1989

OMFG most of the people love it…..don’t ruin it for everyone else…

    • Fox1028

Dude, i dont know why all the hate towards the fulton, in PEACEWALKER when you were advanced enough you dont go fultoning everyone because the mayority of normal soldiers suck and your base would get overcrowded. Same is with TPP, it has the same limit as PW…

    • dj

If they don’t listen to you then the game will be good, the fulton doesn’t “break the mechanics of the game” at all. This game continuities on from PW, so it’s not out of place at all.

  • Invader_skoodge

I like how the mother base looks. It looks like hours of fun just messing around and customizing it. I felt a little nostalgic because not too long ago, I finished leveling up my Mother Base in Peace Walker. :’ ( “Why Skull Face, WHY???!!”

  • ObsessedGeorge

If we have a user here in MGI that understands Russian, l would love to know what the Soviet are saying. Like when the first guard gets tranqed or get fultoned and on the alert status.

    • kimeikato

The fultoned guy said something like: “Somebody, get me down!” and the guard who was holden up: “Don’t shoot”.

      • ObsessedGeorge

        Nice, thanks!

  • ObsessedGeorge

If anyone wants to point anything that they didn’t like, this is the place to do it.
I’ve pointed some things out myself.

So, what are your impressions of #MGSVTPP? #koji_sta Happy to have the cardboard box and Fulton back?— KONAMI Europe (@konamieu) June 19, 2014

    • Venom Snake

I would like Snake to Sit Down while using The Phantom Gigar instead of staying up, is just a bit unrealistic to stay up for days!

And my second problem is THE BIGGEST problem,
      No PC Version yet?

    • gaf

Hey stop telling konami to remove the fulton you idiot. If you dislike it then don’t freaking use it, but stop the BS about how its unbalancing the game, you haven’t even played the fucking game and the video was just a demonstration not the final product.

The fulton already has been altered and limited since PW, 1) you can no longer use indoors, 2) it has a success rate now and it can fail if you use it during bad weather conditions, and lastly going off of the 80% success rate shown in the video, you will more than likely start off with a low success rate for the

level one fulton and have to develop the higher levels to get a higher rate, similar to how other weapons were in PW. The fulton does not need to be removed or altered, the option to use the chopper to extract soliders should still be in TPP so plan using that if you don’t want to use the fulton.

Geez the nerve of some of you people, to tell them to remove something optional simply because you don’t like it and you think “it’s going to make the game too easy” when the game hasn’t even released, you haven’t played it, and you don’t even know how difficult it’s going to be.

      • Janeo

Most people seem to like the Fulton so I don’t think konami will get to many complaints so there is nothing to worry about. I find it kind of selfish though that some people are saying remove something because they personally don’t like it even though most others are fine with it

        • No Place For Hayter

Agreed, also it would be impossible to remove the feature due to how important to the game and its mechanics, at most they could only edit how its done, for me personally, they only need to go as far as making it impossible indoors, which they have already done, so I am a happy camper.

          • Janeo

Yeah I was scared we would be able to Fulton people indoors it’s something that didn’t bother me in peace walker but it would have been weird in this game. I don’t know what people want instead of the Fulton anyway one person said mark enemies then they will be picked up at the end of the mission but that would just be annoying because enemies wake up pretty quickly on hard mode. The only other way to extract people is by taking them to the helicopter and that would get old very quickly in such a huge game

      • ObsessedGeorge

You must have come from the future where reading has drastically changed since l haven’t even mentioned the word “remove” in my posts to Konami. Take the time to read again what l have written and realise how out of this world you are.

I normally don’t reply to people who show no respect to different opinions, but l did this time because l saw fellow users taking your word for it.

  • Danny (Soundwave)

    HNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGG, I can’t take this anymore! Just give me the game! ;-;

  • Romain Robin

    that was….perfect.
I had chills with the music at the beginning. I am happy Kojima decided to go somewhere else than Revenge and war themes. This meloncolly and nostalgic music was brillant, gave me goosebumps. Now bring on the game Kojima, my Money is ready !

  • Venom Snake

To all the PC Players from here,

Let’s make a petition and let them no that there is a Market for this game and that there is demand, maybe they will change their mind like The Developers of The Division, after all Konami said that they listen to their Customers, and that they get feedback from fans, so if is true they should make put this on PC if enough people will sign it and if Konami really cares about what Fans want, that they listen to Fan Feedback!.

So if they are not full of sh*t, they they should at least take it show is something, like a PC Trailer, a Release Date, a Release Window, THE HELL even a Yes or No would be Great, or at least to let us know that we will hear something soon, either Positive or Negative, doesn’t matter, anything is better then not a word!

What do you say, why knows how to make a Good Description for a petition, anyone?

WOw! I sent a tweeted them yesterday asking them to upload an upress version with good color quality! Was it I???

  • XIFF-5

To those who are bitching about downgrading the graphics in this gameplay, it is clearly the times of the day are different. The first is in the morning and the second is on the sunset.

    • Shadow Rex

Hmm is it just me or does it look like there is more grass and plants in the E3 2013 shot. An example is just right of the horses mouth, amongst the pile of rocks. There is also more trees in the E3 2014 left and right backgrounds, but more in the centre off in the distance in 2013. I would say this map might still be getting touched up and optimised; plus I think 2014 was PS4 and 2013 was Fox engine on a PC rig. I don’t care either way it still looks fantastic.

    • Yaro

I work in CG. I can notice that there is a downgrade. Not much. But there is. One thing to keep in mind. The lighting is different. The global illumination seems to be stronger on the new demo which is not a downgrade it just bounces more light from objects making the light look softer.

What actually really got a downgrade was the resolution of the shadows. Those looks like 512 pixel shadows to me which are flickering a lot. Specially when you use the binoculars. This was visible in GZ. There might be some ambien Occlusion on the 2013 demo wich creates some nice dark shadows on Ocelots cloth making it look more solid. Now there is no Ambien Occlusion. But again it can also be better shadows with higher resolution. Its not a big downgrade in my eyes… I hope they tweak the fox engine more so they can put higher res shadows… that would make a ton of difference. Some textures are also a little muddy. Specially the bump maps on the ground.
Theres a lot of popping too but I really dont mind that at all. Relax people the game looks gorgeous.

Anyways. Its naturall they were probably running the thing on a PC and it wasnt ready for the PS4 back then. Relax. Theyre not pulling a Watchdogs.

    • Venom Snake

The one from 2014 looks better, seems a lot people forget that this is Afganistan, that is supposed to look Orange like that!

  • the gameplay and the game looks awesome, from what we are able to hear, i’m liking the work on ocelot’s voice. I wonder how the controls will work for the horse movement though… it seems to me that there are “speeds” instead of fluent movement, GZ was lacking in that too with the vehicles i think that the speed should be more sensitive especially in an open world game, also, my biggest complain: i can’t stand this mute snake, and this has me very worried

  • Fox1028

That soundtrack at the beginning was just epic…

    • No Place For Hayter

I totally forgot to mention how amazing the music was, I am SO looking forward to the more emotional parts of the game with music of this scale 0.0

  • Lowrez

I made a comparison video to showcase the differences of the game between the E3 2013 trailer and the gameplay demo shown on E3 2014. What do you guys think?

    • Jamesb0ndjr

Side by side I actually enjoyed the E3 2014 demo more.

The only thing I thought looked better in the 2013 demo was the sand storm effects. Other than a color change and that the 2014 one looks better in every way.

    • Venom Snake

The one from E32014 looks better, in 2013 it didn’t had a color filter, or maybe the Xbox One Version won’t have that color filter, but advanced particles effects!

The 2013 one didn’t looked like Afganistan to much, to blue, when the new one has a Orange filter which gives a sensation of Hot and Sand!

    • ObsessedGeorge

The only thing that’s better in the 2013 trailer is the shadows. Nothing else. The 2014 one has clouds, trees, different time of day and better facial expressions. Oh and horse shit. 😛 Nicely done man.

    • Lowrez

There are obviously a lot of improvements to the E32014 version, such as the camera movement, and the expressions of both Snake and Ocelot. I personally like both versions, but the shadows in the E32013 seem more appealing to me. However I do believe that both versions are taking place on different times of the day.

  • Jamesb0ndjr

I am so stoked for this game its beyond crazy……

    Now for a few thoughts.

My biggest issues with the demo and gameplay of GZ is the fact that when soldiers spot you it alerts the entire base. Now the slow mo reaction is supposed to alleviate that but this is my idea for how it could be better and more immersive.

Bring back the old way. Simply give each soldier a walkie-talkie and if they spot you they call in your position and at that point the base is alerted. Not only does this get rid of the need for the slo mo aid but it also creates more immersion and allows the player to disable the walkie beforehand (which was always rewarding in previous MGS games) or to rectify a mistake without losing everything in a more realistic manner.

As for the Fulton System, the idea is great. It’s implementation is a little, like people say, OP. My idea would be to simply make using the Fulton put guards in a caution or alert state where they search for what the hell is going on around them. This would extend to a much larger area then it is now. Thus nerfing (so to say) the Fulton while still allowing it to be used in the exact same way and increasing immersion. When infiltrating a base you would have to decommission guards to a much larger radius while making sure they don’t wake up and such. Then once the area has been cleared you can return to whatever you want to fulton and then do it.

This keeps the current Fulton intact while increasing immersion and allowing for and creating more chances for strategy.

Besides these two things The game is looking spectacular. Just my two cents on those issues. What do you guys think? This is my first post.

    • No Place For Hayter

Your first post? Well on behalf on the community I say, Welcome!

I completely agree with the points you make (although I agree with your point about fultoning, some part of me hopes for it to remain OP) as far as the alert system goes I completely agree, I have no idea as to why they would lessen such a useful and realistic element of the game.

    • ObsessedGeorge

Welcome and a big +1 to you my friend! I completely agree. That alert you are describing was what made MGS2 and 3 very rewarding when you managed to stop the alert.

      • Jamesb0ndjr

Thank you Gentlemen. But yeah. I always enjoyed trying to pick off the guards radio so he was cut off. I feel like it was much more realistic and dynamic where as the whole entire base on alert punishes any mistakes since I like to play with the reflex off.

    • PrinceHeir

I would also add when using fulton on someone. If they’re knockout or tranquilzed, they shouldn’t scream during the animation since it takes away for the immersion.

Only if they’re holdup or anything that they should scream. I do like that they should bring back the radio so that the enemy would have to call the CO in order to alert the whole unit instead of one alert means everyone knows were you are.

    Any firm release date?

    • BigBoss_88

Not yet, but I believe it to be early 2015 as the GZ DLC hinted. I hope it would come out this year already though ;D, because the wait is killing me. I was thinking they would reveal a release date in the E3 trailer, but lets hope we get it official soon :).

  • ObsessedGeorge

I’m getting a PS Vita today and l wanted to ask if l can use the Vita as the Tablet/Android second screen for the map and the helicopter thing.

    • Venom Snake

      Hope so!

    Hold on!

Where is The “BWANG” Sound when the [ ! ] Icon appears, i don’t hear it?

  • PrinceHeir

Lots of amazing features and very well made presentation.

I love how you little things like you can’t fulton on indoors, percentage rates depending on weather as well as customizable mother base and can be attacked by enemies as well.

And lol at people complaining about the quirks and funny moments of Metal Gear. Without those this would only be a boring typical western game.

I’m glad Kojima didn’t remove those on what made the series in the first place.

Though i do agree that Snake doesn’t talk too much here. I understand Kojima wanted Snake to be react based on body movement and facial expressions. Even in the JPN edition, I sometimes can barely here Otsuka’s voice due to the deep and dark sound he’s doing.

Can’t wait for the game! I’ll be getting both JPN and ENG(for my brother) Limited Editions so we could play see the difference! I do hope we could also play online regardless of any version we’re using(no more community divide please!)

    Hype as hell for this!!!

    • thetrooper1989

I wish I could upvote this more than once. I cant believe so called MGS fan are criticizing the quirkiness when every MGS game has had it. I call it Kojima-ism. Im really sick of the people complaining. Video games are supposed to fun

      • Schmojima

Kojima-ism, nice! That’s something I can believe in… ALL HAIL KOJIMA!!
