Kojima pays a visit to Platinum Games

Hideo Kojima visited Platinum Games, located in Osaka, and had a dinner meeting with Hideki Kamiya, one of the founders, and Tatsuya Minami, the studio’s president and CEO.

Platinum-Games-Building“I visited at Platinum Games today.”

“Had a great fun chat with Mr. Kamiya, gained energy. Will continue in Kojima Station.”

This visit has caused some speculation saying it may have had something to do with a sequel to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, the Metal Gear spin off released last year. Both studios have expressed interest in developing the title, and Kojima said that if there is going to be a sequel, he would want this studio to do it. But of course, it could also simply be a friendly visit, as Rising was not mentioned by Kojima or Platinum Games in their recent tweets. Also keep in mind that Kamiya was not involved with the first game.

I just hope they will bring this Fox Engine Game “Back To Life” as Metal Gear Rising: 2
The Original Metal Gear Solid: Rising Lightning Bolt

I was happy with the way rising turned out in the end and I want more games like that but I would love to see konami make that game in the future. Perhaps after platinum is done with rising, kojima did he say he wants sequels but he doesn’t wanna make a habit out of it so maybe we will get three rising games so maybe in a few years konami try and make it again the staff would be more experienced by then and they would have the fox engine to work with this time. It’s a pretty important story in the saga so it would be nice to get the game I mean who doesn’t wish they could’ve played through mgs2 with the sword I was so disappointed when I finished the game but couldn’t do another playthrough with the blade.

      • Venom Snake

With the Latest Version of Fox Engine Next-Gen and PC Only, that would be great!

    • Schmojima

really, no offense, but I never got why people liked rising…?

I actually hated it to it’s guts, especially the way it turned out eventually. In the beginning they promised to fill in the gaps of raidens story, between MGS 2 and MGS 4 that is, and THAT sounded awesome, but after revamping the game and its story, postponing everything into the “not so distant future“, they just blew it. I dunno, I bet they could’ve created a much much better game than they actually did, the gameplay was just so boring and generic.

I have to admit, I just played the demo for PS3, but after beating it once I just quit the game and deleted it instantly, so disappointing and really not in any way eligible for the prestigious title of a “METAL GEAR“. Am I making sense? Well, I love Platinum Games, especially Bayonetta and Vanquish, but Platinum plus MGS just sucked for me…

      EDIT:
and yes, you are right! I really hope they bring back their original plans for MGS RISING! 😀

      • Raiden

I like Metal Gear Rising because it’s more Metal Gear! It may sound dumb, but I really can’t get enough Metal Gear (in a non-unhealthy way) whether Metal Gear Solid or Metal Gear Rising. MGR is a fast-paced action game first and foremost, I like these games. Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry, God of War, etc. Better than I ever could have expected, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, to me plays better than most action games and really does work as a standalone addition to the MGS franchise.

There’s no questioning the fact that this is the most violent of the Metal Gear Solid games, hands down (until Phantom Pain releases but even then it might not be). Whether you want to bisect, disect or rip the spines of enemies out, it’s all in here. I mean slice and dice enemies in a number of imaginative and really freaking gory ways.

It looks great. IT manages to look so technically coherent. I mean, isn’t it great to see a game that runs at 60FPS? All with excellent pacing throughout the entire game.

Raiden frantically scaling buildings, diving to avoid hordes of missiles, and countless other set-pieces simply too good to spoil is a big (boss) plus. There are many other reasons why I like the game too!

        • Janeo

I feel the same way it’s more metal gear how could a fan resist this. I’m not usually a huge fan of hack and slash I like some but don’t play a lot it worked so well in this game though. Even if you don’t like hack and slash I think there is something in this game for every big metal gear fan to bad some people see it as a betrayal to the series for some reason and won’t even acknowledge it. It was easily my favourite game of 2013 I’m sure most peoples would be last of us but I must be the only person that doesn’t see that as a masterpiece I mean I enjoyed every second of my two playthroughs and it’s a beautiful game but it doesn’t get anywhere near a masterpiece for me.

          • Schmojima

I totally get what you and “Raiden” are saying, guess I’m just a hardliner in this case.
Rising will never get even remotely near my MGS collection… ;D

            everyone to his own liking!

          • No Place For Hayter

I too think The Last of Us is not a masterpiece, so you are not alone there, you just have to think of the silent masses 🙂

      • No Place For Hayter

        Agreed.

Despite the original MGSR idea not being “Metal Gear” to me it was still a really cool and unique idea which fell apart and became MGRR.

Platinum Games do make some really good games but I still don’t really trust them with the title of Metal Gear, what happened with MGR is what had to be done to save the game, but I am not sure if I would support another Metal Gear game by Platinum, I’m not sure if Kojima or Konami will willingly let them use the name without any pressure (but they might because it will make a lot of money so I guess the quality of the product does not factor in whether it be good or bad as long as it makes money) If Platinum were to make another I would really want it to be what MGR was supposed to be originally. But that is just my opinion, most people love the game I just personally don’t, I mean it is fun to play, but the quality of the game itself and the story and characters I don’t really like. Each to his own I guess 🙂

        • Schmojima

          Yes, absolutely!

        • Raiden

Metal Gear Solid: Rising was cancelled because Kojima Productions had no idea how to handle a sword-based fighting game. They didn’t know what enemies would challenge the player, how to make it a proper game while still being the badass cyborg ninja. Platinum’s Metal Gear Rising: Reveangence is better than what Metal Gear Solid: Rising ‘would’ not “could” have been in a gameplay perspective.

When I first saw Metal Gear Solid: Rising I was impressed by its visuals and hyped for its story, however, the gameplay had me worried. A company with no experience was going to try something entirely new without any help on their own. Luckily they saw the reality of the truth and gave it to a proper experienced company. Otherwise Metal Gear Solid: Rising would have really tarnish the franchise.

If Kojima decides to do a story about Raiden between Sons of Liberty and Guns of the Patriots, it’d be more inline with ‘tactical espionage’ than what they were aiming for- the ‘cyborg ninja experience’ (which only Platinum could have deliver). The game would more or less be somewhat a hybrid between Assassin’s Creed and Metal Gear. Raiden’s agile and quickness would probably make him a little faster than Big Boss. His stealth kills would be like those from Assassin’s Creed stealth kills. However, you won’t get the ‘cyborg ninja experience’ from what you saw in MGS4.

      • Venom Snake

        Agree.

But, it does deserve the Title Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, but Metal Gear!

  • Janeo

It does just look like a friendly visit but I’m hoping it’s rising 2, it’s been over a year since rising came out and it’s very likely there will be another so maybe they are in the early stages of development.

  • Golgari

Metal Gear rising was in fact that best selling Platinum games so MGR2 development is on the horizon for next gen. They are developing it. End of story.
My only concern with this is that they already make three games: Scalebound for Xbox One, Bayonetta 2 for WiiU and The Legend of Korra is coming this year already for 5 platforms (PC,360,Ps3, XOne, PS4)

I don’t want them to make a 5 hour campaign game. MGR gameplay was solid. It had okay storyline and the engine was outdated. I hope that they will make their next game on Fox Engine or a better engine and will make a longer campaign with improved zan-datsu mechanic with better hack and slash mechanics.

They should also think about stealth element in to it. MGR had stealth but AI was poor and predictable so stealth was more like a fun factor or for achievements.

    • Janeo

What do you mean by improving hack and slash mechanics? I really liked the way they did it, I’m not usually a fan of hack and slash I don’t like having to do all these crazy combos so that I can beat a boss I liked the way it was less about combos and more about timing and speed. I hope we get a much longer campaign and rose on codec I didn’t mind the stealth though it wasn’t great obviously but at least they put in that little bit of extra effort to put stealth in.

      • Golgari

Stealth was not really an effort in Reveangence. More like “Hey, it’s Metal Gear.. A Stealth series whatever” moment and for those that are not a fan of hack and slash games with combos can lower the difficulty. That’s why I liked Bayonetta more because it had more depth and I expect next Metal Gear to have that.
MGR was nice but it lacked depth and other stuff that gamers like about metal gear games or hack and slash games.

I’m a huge fan of Metal gear franchise and I want my Metal Gear games and spinoff games to be the best games as much as possible.

  • Ricardo Oe

    Chi-Mu-Nihon…

  • Machine Gun Kid

For what it was Rising was a pretty cool game. I liked it, bring on Rising 2 please with online

  • Fraaancis

I remember Kojima said that he wanted to make MGR about Gray Fox, maybe MGR 2 would be about him, since now Big Boss and 80’s in focus, not Solid Snake and future as it was, when they start make Rising, it’s have more sense.

  • César H. Sandoval

This better means that they’re making MGR2.

  • CrazyGuy207

How about Rising for the Vita? Seriously, remote play is great, but that thing is in some desperate need for games.

    • ObsessedGeorge

Yeah, imagine slicing up enemies using the touch screen!

      • Dizz

I think I’d prefer MGR2 to -not- be fruit ninja 2. Lol. Just my opinion though.

        • ObsessedGeorge

How else can you implement the game on Vita? Aren’t going to want to use the touchscreen to cut some fruit… enemies? 🙂

    • NegaScott128

Bizarrely, the old pre-Platinum version running on the FOX Engine was supposed to come to Vita, yet the Platinum version didn’t. I honestly have no idea why; it can’t be technical demands, because the FOX Engine should be far more demanding than the Platinum engine.

    • Nekkedsnake

MGR on vita would be interesting. I’d imagine cutting mechanics to be touch screen. Like Fruit Ninja

  • LukesAlike

    Controversy alert.

  • PrinceHeir

    Metal Gear Rising 2!!!

One of the best hack and slashes of Gen 7 along with Bayonetta, and Ninja Gaiden II.

I can’t wait for Bayonetta 2 and Rising 2!!!! Itagaki should make a Ninja game; maybe Ninja Blade II From Software? XD

  • Invader_skoodge

This is a comment form 今泉健一郎(Kenichiro Imaizumi) From the live broadcast on YouTube when people started to talk about that.

“We just visited Platinum Games. It is nothing to do with another corroboration.”

    http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVEVpZ7VgEdZiR2MmdZA3Qw

    • Invader_skoodge

I know that’s not the link to the quote but I don’t know how to internet today. Of course statements like that mean nothing in the gaming industry,

    • Anonymous GP Legend

Yeah? Last time they said they had nothing, they lied.

  • A little unrelated, I know, but nonetheless.
The Metal Gear Solid V 30 minute demo, in 1080p at 60 frame per second, just in case not everyone’s seen it yet.

I’m just gonna leave this here…

    http://metagearsolid.org/2014/06/revengeance-taken-seriously/

Edit: I can’t wait to get my computer fixed so I can continue editing my Mr.Plinkett-style review of Rising, so I can empirically prove that Rising sucks as a Metal Gear game (Solid or otherwise.)

Edit 2: inb4″lol sounds like you never gave the game a chance” even though, after I completed the game, I actually tried to convince myself I liked that piece of trash “parallel story”, before finally coming to terms with how much I detest it.

  • Raiden

I really hope it’s about another Metal Gear Rising game.
The more Metal Gear the better, I’d say!

In the sequel they can have Raiden go all Akuma, fighting only for what he believes in, not for anyone else.
And the new stars can be his son John, a young up-and-coming action hero along with George the Guyanese Raiden rescued in MGR:R. Both John and George can make for a great coop game XD

Sunny: Radio Contact and manufacturer of weapons, gadgets, and armor. You know, cybernetic enhancements. Maybe a returning of a few other radio contacts from MGR:R.

John: The new star of the game.
George: John’s equal and teammate. Can also be the “humor” of the game. Perhaps he has a funny way of fighting? Some monkey style or something.

Raiden: The Lone traveler, comes and goes. Helps his son when in trouble. Fights his son but never kills him, only tells him he should fight for himself and what he believes in and not for anyone else (then leaves).

    New badies, bosses, etc.

  • PrinceHeir

Lots of hollywood directors and actos complimenting MGSV! 😀

Kojima also praised Knights of Sidonia!

    http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2014-06-20/metal-gear-hideo-kojima-praises-knights-of-sidonia-anime/.75701

There will be a season 2 this november!

    http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-06-26/knights-of-sidonia-anime-gets-2nd-season/.76004

Watch it! It’s awesome, though it’s kinda hard to get used to the all CGI style.

  • Glasscut

Metal Gear Solid Rising 2 incoming.. my body is ready.. I like how kojima used it to address corrupt politicians that use their government position to cause problems in other countries.. ( same as the movie “shooter” )..

  • Glasscut

The next rising we can expect more sneaking instead of cutting up everything.. The first MGR virtually had no stealth mechanic period.. I believe in the next one raiden will have more weapons. if you any of you took the survey in 2013.. This survey was sent out by platinum games and koji pro / konami.. They asked a lot of questions about the gameplay aspect.. So from what i see above i think it’s safe to say a new rising is in the works, might feature the fox engine and this time around raiden will actually be doing some sneaking with the open of cutting everything..
