Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will have a lot of easter eggs

Kojima-Station-27

Some exciting news was shared during the latest episode of Kojima Station. During the segment of the show where Kojima and Kobayashi read comments sent in by viewers, one of the viewers wrote about how he was trying to beat The End (the legendary sniper) in Metal Gear Solid 3, but he could not do it. When he got back to the game a week later, the End had died. The viewer said he was looking forward to similar easter eggs in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and according to the hosts, there will be a lot of those.

Not exactly specific, but it’s good to hear the little details and surprises that help make feel these series so special won’t be abondened in the struggle of making an open world game with massive locations. Because for many fans, easter eggs are one of the things that make Metal Gear, Metal Gear.

Since there’s still no release-date, I reached a point where I don’t want further news about this game. Then again – I’m weak – I check every new bit…

    • Diamond Fox

      hhhhhhhhhh me 2.

    • John Rhogan

It’s not the suspense that gets to you, it’s the waiting. Believe me, I’m waiting for this game to be released also. I’m sure everybody else here is impatiently waiting for this to be released.

  • quintimnia

    gimme the release daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate

    • Mini gear

      Yep

      • quintimnia

daaamnnn youuuu ( in gurlukovich voice, shooting )

  • moto hellogoto

I’d like a reference to solid Snake please.

  • Ninja_Se7eN

I remember this boss being extremely difficult the first time I completed the game because I beat it like a straight forward sniping battle.
Once I learned the thermal vision + hold up combo the boss got ridiculously easy.
This is one thing I love about Metal Gear there’s almost always a smart way to defeat the bosses and they get much easier if you take your time to think about what you’re doing.

    • Exactly, using the thermal goggles to track him down and the shotgun from up close can finish him off in a few minutes. 😛

      • i love that about MGS games, there’s a lot of ways to play through the game and beat the bosses.

BTW does any one know of different ways to beat crying wolf in Sons of the Patriots? i always beat her the same way… and i’m not too proud of my way to do it haha, and i’ve never seen any one else playing that part.

        • Sreza

The easiest way I’ve found is to use NV to sneak up on her while she’s out of the suit, throw a smoke nade, then throw 2 stun nades, then another smoke, repeat til KO.

          • i haven’t heard of this one, thanks!

          • Sreza

oh, and if you’re on a BB run, she’ll spawn in the woods to the left of where you start the battle, just hug the left side wall around the the arena, tranqing frogs til you reach her, you can KO her with smokes/stuns and finish the battle in less than 2 minutes.

          • great! the BB run is the only thing left for me to do on MGS4 so this tip will be useful c:

        • Ninja_Se7eN

I just hid under a car and sniped her untill KO xD.
I didn’t care if I got spoted because she always hit the car instead of me XD.

          • well… that’s what i do too XD hence why i said i wasn’t too proud haha

      • Ninja_Se7eN

I used the Tranq. Gun for non-lethal run to get the Moisan Nagant :P.
That was a great technique overall!

    • decoyF0XX

I beat MGS3 first time without knowing about the thermal goggles. You’ll be surprised how the whole game is based around those goggles. The fear was especially hard for me.

      • Ninja_Se7eN

Yeah, gadgets like the thermal goggles are a big part of MGS3.

There’s actually a technique for The Fear that doesn’t require the thermal goggles.
Just make sure you have plenty of rotten food on your inventory when you enter that boss battle.
When you start the fight toss a piece of rotten food to the ground and wait around it until The Fear depletes his stamina. Then, when he starts looking for food, he’ll go for the food you already tossed instead of picking some for himself.
While he’s doing that you can either ambush him or just let him eat the rotten food because he’ll puke afterwards :P.
Iterate until KO. If you’re doing a non-lethal run you can do this in one iteration since he’ll already be low on stamina when he starts looking for food and one or two shots from the tranq. gun should do the trick ;).

        • decoyF0XX

That sounds like fun, I’ll try it next time. The last time I played I used a really really cheap method just to try it out lol. Used a fake death pill then The fear came around and turned to his back, I took the revival pill, sneaked behind him, threw a stun grenade, stunned him, shot him in the head once with a shotgun and it was over XD

          • Ninja_Se7eN

I didn’t even know that was possible xD. Thanks for sharing that xD.

          • decoyF0XX

You’re welcome! The fake death pill was fun to use, also helped me with beating Volgin too. When I used it with The Boss she kicked the shit out of me though haha.

          • Ninja_Se7eN

Wow, I just used them to get out of jail once. I’m beginning to see there are endless possibilities for fake death pills :P.
Hope they’re back in TPP so I can star experimenting with them :P.

          • decoyF0XX

I used the code The Sorrow flashed to get out of jail although it cost me an alert, funny I never tried the fake death pill. With all these options in TPP there’d probably be like a 100+ ways to complete every mission, can’t wait 😀

          • If you give Johnny your food, he will eventually start talking to you. When he shows you a picture of his family, you can see the security code on the back.

          • decoyF0XX

Isn’t MGS amazing!? I never knew about that, never even read it anywhere. I remember the first time I played the fight against The End, I waited in one spot for so long he eventually found me and took me all the way back to the prison, told my friend what happened but he didn’t even believe that was in the game haha. How do you give food to Johnny by the way?

          • After he has given you some food, toss it though the little opening in the bars. I think I read about it in a guide, you also get an extra cutscene (part of it was in one of the MGS3 trailers).

          • decoyF0XX

I’ll definitely try that next time I play it!

          • Ninja_Se7eN

            I can’t wait either!

I used the code on my second play-through :).

  • PrinceHeir

Now that’s refreshing to hear ^^

Also how’s everyone enjoying The Evil Within?

Just finished The Evil Within right now and WTF happened towards the end O___O

They really need to expand this. It seems there’s lots of interpretation to be explored.

Was really in my edge of my seat in each sections. Although towards the end it got too actiony(like RE4), but man the first and middle parts were the scariest! So many one hit kills, traps can kill you, normal enemies can kill you in the spot. Now this is more like it!

Also final boss was kinda disappointing, especially comparing it to RE4.

All i can say is this game has TONS of RE4 references.

    Difficulty: Survival
    Total Clear Time is 15:58:47
    Total Number of Deaths: 53

I only died in RE4 like 20 times first time playthrough, so this is a record for me XD

Tbh i don’t know where people been getting those extreme slow downs. Not once i experienced any slow downs. The only time i got one is when i went to a room to collect some items. Other than that it was constant 30FPS throughout the play.

I understand i installed the day 1 patch, so i guess people experience more problems without installing it.

Also New Game+ mode is here. Seems NewGame+ is only applicable to the same difficulty and can’t cross over.

Just like Resident Evil 4 XD

Well i chose Survival(highest possible difficulty unlocked at first) so glad i manged to beat this in this level ^^

According to the credits there’s Japanese voice!!! It seems it’s not available on the options menu though :

I hope they make the JPN voice DLC soon though!

Still i love the English Voice acting here. Sebastian just needs to add some more emotion when going through a hell like this. Kinda reminds me Silent Hill 4’s protagonist Harry. All these shit happening to him, not once he broke down. I understand these characters need to keep their cool at all times, but man sometimes Sebastian can be cold like this is a normal everyday life to him XD

Also Joseph Oda is voiced by Yuri Lowenthal. I knew he sounded similar!

I prefer this kind of his voice compared to his other roles. So i hope he uses this kind of voice in his future roles ^^

They really need to make a sequel off of this!!!! This is the kind of game i love replaying over and over again. The game might not have pushed the horror enveloped, but man the mechanics, atmosphere, locations are just awesome!

Either way i can’t wait for Julie Kidman’s DLC and what she was doing behind the scenes. I was hoping Joseph will have one as well!.

This maybe my first time buying a season pass!

Also I’m replaying The Evil Within in Newgame+ mode in Survival 😛

Love this game! At least i need to collect all of the newspapers, articles and those map fragments soon!

This will keep my in tide till MGSV comes out ^^

    • Hellrasinbrasin

The Evil Within felt like a return to Biohazard IV. I’m getting my Survival Horror fix through CAs Alien Isolation.

      • Le Guy who drowned quiet

        so true!

    • Big_Boss88

I enjoyed The Evil Within a lot :D, but the only part I didn’t really like was it chapters 10 and 11. finished it on Survival and I got about 16h clear time and 46 deaths.

Currently pretty far into Alien Isolation on Hard difficulty 🙂 and got lots of nasty deaths already lol.
In my opinion A. Isolation is more scarier than TEW, the atmosphere when walking down the space station’s steamy hallways etc… it just looks and feels so creepy but amazing at the same time.

Maybe after this I do NG+ in TEW or buy AC:U, FC4, DA3 or GTA5 (again).
P.S. I had to buy yesterday Alien Collection dvd box when happened to notice it in local store xD. Haven’t seen them in years, especially Alien 1 movie, so time to check them out soon!

Tryin to hide fast in Alien Isolation… o_O

      • PrinceHeir

        Awesome!

I’ll check that out, but i really prefer 3rd person viewer games XD

I actually plan on playing Nightmare mode instead of New Game+ for Survival.

I want to finish this game at the highest level 🙂

        • Big_Boss88

I always prefer 3rd person view in games :D, because I like to see my character.
But for some games, sometimes 1st person view works very well. In horror genre games too like P.T, Alien Isolation and Outlast, well those came to my mind at the moment but there are others also I think.

I have sometimes wondered how Silent Hills or Resident Evils would feel like, if they would be in 1st person. But in the end 3rd is still the best for me :).

Good luck on your Nightmare run Prince :D, maybe I try it too. If I have enough courage to face that Spider lady again …it so damn creepy to me for some reason…

I think it’s the way how it’s done, because it reminds me of those horrifying childhood creatures. Bosses like Pyramid Head, William Birkin, Mr.X or Nemesis etc, the ones that just keep chasing you through the game.

          • PrinceHeir

            Awesome!

Lol Reborn Laura indeed scared the shit out of me. Also The Keeper(Box Head) scared me just because he keeps appearing out of nowhere.

Man i’m glad you know your horror stuff!! I plan on playing lots and lots of horror games since my interest was rekindled because of The Evil Within.

            Agree!!

I think this is the first time i’ve been scared when someones chasing me ever since Nemesis from RE3 and Dahaka from Prince of Persia The Warrior Within XD

    • Invader_skoodge

I’m liking it very much. I specially like the little nod they did to RE1 when you encounter the fist zombie in chapter 2, when he’s crouched down munching on a dude, the dude’s head fall of and the zombie turns around slowly. That was shot by shot, RE1.

  • ObsessedGeorge

Great! I love Easter Eggs! MGS has had tons of them!
Anyway, if anyone is interested, I have uploaded a Ground Zeroes video on YouTube.
It’s called Cinematic gameplay, and as the title suggests, I was aiming for a movie-like feel.
    https://twitter.com/ObsessedGeorge/status/530841461135527937

    • 5V5

It would have been better if you hadn’t edited the video

      • ObsessedGeorge

I know man, first time I did it without editing it and it was 25 minutes. I didn’t know that SHAREfactory had a 15 minute restriction. So what l did was gather the best played parts and replayed the rest while keeping the video under 15 minutes. That’s why l rush the mission after extracting Chico. I didn’t intend to do it that way, but since l started it, l might as well finish it. When l was editing it, it did not played like that. It was smoother, like when l slit the guard’s throat. 🙁 It was messed up in the rendering. Yeah, it’s not the best video editing program.

  • i’ve been away for a while, sorry! there’s a lot of stuff i was missing, many great news, also that piece about MGS2 was really good nyxus.

Anyway, on topic: indeed it’s good to hear about easter eggs being in V and i hope the quality of these is in the same level as other games in the saga

    • Machine Gun Kid

      GET WITH IT!!!-CODEC FROM MGO

  • gerber

This will be the best game since big bang

    • Big_Boss88

Amen brother, you speak the truth :).

  • Big_Boss88

Sweet :D, I’m very interested to find out what kind of easter eggs TPP has ;). The one about The End in MGS3 is awesome lol.

I haven’t done it very often, I mean saving during the fight and then returning days later, but when I played MGS3 on my Vita some time ago I did it by accident lol. I forgot he dies :C. And I was like damn NOO, I missed the epic sneaking battle >:O !!!

  • NakedSnake85

jhIm sure now.. Venom Snake is a body double…and hes the medic from GZ.. the xray image of big boss confirms it.. hes full of little pieces of metal stucked in his body.. the medic took the full blast when paz blew up… the medic is the new protagonist a person who has amnesia and kaz ocelot and the patriots saw fit to brainwash just to pose as big boss.. thus V has come to.. im sure that near the end of the game the real big boss will make an appearence and hes going to stop Venom..that fits the mirror theme of the game and the new multiplayer..as we saw a snake stopped a snake as he returned to the base… im so sure now…that in the end big boss will find out that kaz and the patriots were behind this and he ll pissed of….and of course he will create outer heaven either to oppose or destroy diamond dogs 🙂 what do u think guys??????

    • I’m pretty sure he’s just Snake. 😛

      • Big_Boss88

Are you sure? What if in the end of the game Snake takes off his mask, and reveals to us that he is actually John Rambo :D.

    • Big_Boss88

Interesting theory :), but that’s what it is like many others. I’ll try not to think too much about these anymore, because never know what MGS will show us in the end.

  • Guest

Can’t wait from obtuse side-mission puzzles.

    • Icosikaidigon

      Woah, how did this happen?

  • Icosikaidigon

Can’t wait for obtuse side-mission puzzles.

    • Le Guy who drowned quiet

      what does that pic mean?

  • PrinceHeir

Also Nyxus have you finished The Evil Within yet? 😀

    • Yeah, a while ago. Good game but frustrating at some moments.

      • PrinceHeir

Yeah, at first i was dying a lot due to one hit kills and some enemies can overpower you even if it’s only a normal one.

Mine is Roborn Laura(one who looks like Spider Sadako), Two Keepers(Box Head) boss fights 🙂

These were the most intense boss fights i had in a awhile now.

I hope MGSV TPP Will have even bigger and better boss fights when it comes out ^^

        • Hmm, maybe the octopus-like thing.

          • PrinceHeir

The one who hangs on the ceiling?

Also do you plan on buying the Season Pass for the DLCs? Already bought mine a few hours ago ^^

          • No. I never buy DLC.

          • PrinceHeir

Why? I think the upcoming DLC will be valuable and definitely will explain what Julie Kidman is doing behind the scenes and expand her story more.

It will probably be similar(in terms of length) from Ada’s Separate Ways from Resident Evil 4.

I was hoping Joseph Oda as well, since he’s disappearing a lot throughout the game.

I hope you just at least buy Julie’s DLC, even if your not buying Keeper’s DLC that’s fine since it’s just a mini mode that you play as him.

          • Big_Boss88

Some people just don’t like to buy DLCs. One of my friend don’t like buying them. I’ll maybe buy TEW DLC after finishing my other games :).

Anyway, I miss the days when we didn’t have DLC, but instead every game released as complete pieces.

Nowadays we get them all the time and now many upcoming games already announced, that they will bring DLC soon after release. Telling that to us like weeks/months before we even get to play the game.

          • PrinceHeir

I don’t mind DLC. But yeah i think Julie Kidman’s DLC, Deus Ex The Missing Link would fit with those unlockable modes after finishing the game.

But i trust Mikami-san that we’ll see something new from Julie’s game. Maybe even new bosses or weapons not found from Sebastian’s playthrough ^^

          • Some games did get rereleases (like MGS2 and MGS3). I prefer that over buying DLC to be honest. May be more expensive but at least it adds to the collection.

          • glitchbomb

That bastard is the reason i had a double digit death #. 🙁
I had barely any ammo at that point. Thank god for the lil explodey slugs. Otherwise I would have had to punch the guy to death!

  • Big_Boss88

Just came back from watching Interstellar, what a fascinatingly awesome 3h scifi movie :). I loved the visuals + music in it too and I’m officially a Matthew McConaughey fan now. He sure knows how to act :D.

    • decoyF0XX

I really want to see this, not had the time yet though.

      • Big_Boss88

I really recommend it :D, some of the best 3h spent in movies in a long time for me. Interstellar is the kind of scifi movie, that has to be watched on big screen. Best experience that way ^-^.

        • decoyF0XX

Hope I can find some time next week, really excited cause I have no idea what the movie is really about lol

          • Big_Boss88

It’s very emotional movie. You better avoid visiting youtube’s comment sections though, because people sometimes post nasty spoilers there.

          • decoyF0XX

            Haha I’ll definitely avoid that!

    • Machine Gun Kid

He was pretty good in the south park episode handicar to. Some of his best work yet lol.

  • Mini gear

I wish kojima gave a free demo of TPP for people who bought GZ
