New Metal Gear Online update available now, adds Survival Mode

A new update for Metal Gear Online is available for download right now. This update will add Survival Mode to the game as well as bring some changes and additions (like fixing the ‘flinch issue’ that occurred as a result to the previous update). For the full patch notes, go here and check out the update notes below.

Konami’s press release reads:

Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. announced today that SURVIVAL mode is now live in METAL GEAR ONLINE, the dedicated, squad-based multi-player component of the best-selling METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN.

SURVIVAL is a new win-streak mode where teams of players compete to achieve greater rewards. All players can try out the new maps from the recent ‘CLOAKED IN SILENCE’ DLC for free in SURVIVAL matches, with a limit of 10 attempts per week (the number of free available attempts reset every Tuesday during the scheduled maintenance). Players who purchased the ‘CLOAKED IN SILENCE’ Expansion Pack will have unlimited access to SURVIVAL.

Let’s try this new Survival mode.

*Off-Topic* This teaser looks hot ! (14 Dec in theaters)

    • I dont want to be rude but… geeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzz

Every time there is a new thread people come in and post “*off topic* – blablabla”

Like, sorry but go do it somewhere else..? This is supposed to be a Metal Gear thing…..

      • Gatsu

There isn’t any rule to talk only about MG related stuff, we can discuss almost about anything which is nice imo. And sometimes it’s hard to come up with topic related stuff to write about, so at least the articles stay busy.

Why couldnt we chat about daily things and other interests? What’s so bad about it to chat with friends here?

Your comment don’t have anything to do with MG either tbh.

        • Im not complaining about the community itself but I come here on a daily basis to read the news of MG series or anything related to it.
I get your point, there isnt really much to talk about but thats what bothers me because people come here and start talking about stuff that are completely random and the ones that actually would have something to say/talk about that is related to MG have to scroll down like 30 comments just because you had a nice off-topic you wanted to share with everyone…

I know I am being an ass and kinda selfish in some way but this is METALGEARinformer.com ffs, its not OffTopicInformer.com

I just hope since you’re a mod you wont kick my ass because I like this site but it’d be nice (to me at least) to actually see MG stuff here from time to time

          • Gatsu

Haha don’t worry I won’t :P, things have to go pretty extreme for us to result in banning :). But yeah it’s a bit hard to discuss interesting MG topics constantly when TPP is out and not so many news coming and not all of them might even interest so many. It’s better imo to discuss something, rather than being at the sort of dead state after TPP released.

This is Metal Gear informer, but Nyxus does update other things too like of Kojima’s new plans etc. I think just because the name is MGI, doesn’t mean the community cannot have discussions of other topics. The best is to be a free rules to chat about anything imo and not too restricted. Especially if some of us visit here every day, what do we discuss about when 95% of MG related things have been maybe said already :P.

I do get your point also, but we’re just in a quiet time kinda. I don’t think it’s really that troublesome to scroll through 30-50 comments, compared to the times when one article had 500-1000 comments.

Just wanted to share my thoughts.

          • Spectralbuttplug

Oh btw mr asshole and his friends are all hating on mgsv on the ford’s video’s comment section
Same goes for fb and twitter etc.

          • Spectralbuttplug

            The feeeeelllllssss !

      • Full Options

The comment section is fortunately not only Metal Gear centric and often a great place for cool discussions of all kind.

Besides that, we often discover great news thanks to many buddies here (mods & standard users), sharing their news about also other games and movies.

      • As others have pointed out, offtopic comments are allowed here, and it’s nice that the community stays lively even if there’s nothing to say about Metal Gear or Kojima Productions. So everyone can talk about anything here. 🙂

      • Spectralbuttplug

        I get !
You don’t like SW but no need to shit on this thread

      • Spiderman

        I completely agree with you

        • Spectralbuttplug

          Really?!

          • Spiderman

Don’t get me wrong, it is nice to have opinions and discussions on a wide variety of topics, but I’ve noticed that ‘off topic’ comments are discussed more so than metal gear centered comments. I guess that’s mostly due to the fact that MGSV is released but yeah, it would be nice for a Metal Gear site to have the main focus of discussion on Metal Gear. No complaints here though, metal gear informer is my go to place for news and cool articles 🙂

          • Spectralbuttplug

We don’t even have fucking comments on this site so we discuss on pop culture
What’s so bad in that ?!

          • Hm yeah, but it’s like you said: we’re kind of in a ‘in-between’ moment: MGSV has been out for a while and Kojima’s new game and / or the next Metal Gear by Konami hasn’t been announced yet. When those things happen people will likely start discussing that again, but at least the community is still active now despite this being a quiet period for the reasons mentioned before.

          • Spiderman

            That’s a fair point

      • I mean…you could just skip those comments but aight then

    • Spectralbuttplug

      STAR WARS ROGGGGGGGGUUUUEEE ONNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEE
Also , the most hated character of the original trilogy apparently is in it

      • Lewis

I sit here and try to think of someone I hated in OT and can’t think of one. Maybe my memory decieves me, but can you remind me, who are you talking about?

        • Spectralbuttplug

          Bubba Feett
          I love bubba feett
He was like inspector gadget with mandalorian armor and just sat there like a dumbass
His father was a badass though

          • Lewis

Ah yeah, I now understand, why I didn’t think of him. All that hype about Boba Fett just went past me, I never considered him being more, than he was. But if they give him more story and badass action, I’ll be okay with it, I think. On the other hand it might ruin his character even more, seeing how he died in RotJ.

          • Spectralbuttplug

“He’s never dead or alive until a story confirms it ‘ Pablo Hidalgo said
Also the ROTJ novel which I think is cannon mentioned that force sensitives have died at his hands

          • Lewis

Yeah, but in the movies he was so useless and dumb, so I have not much respect for him anyway. No novels can save him in my eyes. 😀

          • Spectralbuttplug

He was hyped coz bounty hunters were a new concept in star wars at the time in terms of movies and he got the most screen time

          • Spectralbuttplug

Also he tracked the millenium falcon
            That requires skill tho

          • Spectralbuttplug

Also palaptine died like a retarded dude but they made him badass in ROTS

    • Gonna watch this for Darth Koj – Vader

      • Spectralbuttplug

I’m gonna watch it for Donnie Yen

      • Spectralbuttplug

        And inspector gadget

        • Full Options

Inspector gadget is just driving me rofl… Never heard such comparison of Feett. You must remember this hilarious quotes in Die Hard 4 then…
Warlock : “So you are a fan of Feett ??”
Mc Lane : “No, I am much a Star Wars guy…”
Warlock : “Oh, A Star Wars guy… Man, why did you bring a cop into my command center ???” xD
          And so on..

          • Spectralbuttplug

I didn’t watch all of Die Hard 4 but I remember this part lmao

          • Full Options

What happened to you for DH4 ? For me DH5 really suck balls, but DH4 was kind of nice. Kind of movie I can watch again.
I think the overall rhythm was quite homogeneous, and we have an, as usual, top-cool Mc Lane !? ;D

          • Spectralbuttplug

            Dh4 was not vad
Dh5 bored me to hell in the airplane

      • Full Options

Watching the teaser, I was like WOW (o_O) as every time I see a Star Destroyer or an AT-AT ! hehe ;D

    • Spectralbuttplug
  • Dotcum22

Don’t like that they said this now “While we continue development and promotional support for Metal Gear Online, the team is working an irregular schedule in the coming weeks and will not be able to release Designer’s Notes on a weekly schedule.”

  • Spectralbuttplug

We don’t have as much as comments as we used to have

    • Gatsu

      It was the hype.

      • Spectralbuttplug

        Yeah man

  • JJBYACH

Off topic: Final Fantasy XV game director talks about how they are taking a slightly different approaching to storytelling in an open world environment:

    http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2016/04/06/revealing-final-fantasy-xvs-opening-gameplay.aspx

It looks so good, I love how they are focusing on interweaving moments of player expression (open-world shenanigans) and pre-scripted story moments, building the world around the story and not the other way around.

I feel like this game was made just to fit my personal tastes and everything I always wanted in a game. I’m fighting really hard to prevent this game from reaching the dangerous levels of hype I had for MGSV.

    • Lewis

I always wanted a game with a cast of male friends without any females in a party. As I understand, it is quite strange for a JRPG to have no females in a party, but I’m really eager to play a game focused on male friendship and (possibly) without any romance. It seems like a routine nowadays: be obviously betrayed, kiss a girl, save the day. This team composition is 80% of my hype for FFXV.

      • Spiderman

        My thoughts exactly

  • Venom_Sina

“Metal Gear Solid 2 – Did You Know Gaming? Feat. Super Bunnyhop”
The video can’t tell everything about MGS2,but it does really good in just 9 minutes.

Bafta… Nothing for Hideo… Why don’t they just go and f… themselves ??
Sorry, but in one hand we have an agreed legendary developer and in another, no-thing to tribute the last Kojima’s Metal Gear on earth… Just pissed off as usual…
You know, these guys are going to tell which game is good or not as far as it is politically correct… ehmm…

    • But if MGSV would have won, perhaps once again nobody would be there to pick up the award. :S

      • Full Options

Exactely Nyxus, and that makes it even more cheap for Hideo’s efforts… Hideo is not getting awards simply because Konami is mad at him, and for several times now. :/

        • Funnily enough Kojima has already gotten two awards since he left Konami (the second one being the one he will collect in July). But it’s too bad MGSV doesn’t get a little more recognition, but yeah, quite a few great games came out in 2015.

          • Full Options

Yeah I would not like to be in the valuable rest of Koji-Pro crew at Konami right now.. Like really… But to be fair, as you said, the competition was high this year… Although, technically speaking (say, gameplay), the whole crew was that “distrurbed” (not to say really disturbed), mah… MGSV’s gameplay is simply it (far yet since GZ).

  • Gatsu

Hella well deserved ^_^! Went to the right one imo <3 and I'm glad LiS win against something like TW3.
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FPBga8miAWc
A shame MGSV didn't win any though at BAFTA, because I think they deserved some of them :(.

    • BurntFM

Great game. I felt the dialogue tried a little too hard at times. “Hella” hard lol. Specially with Chloe but I loved it all the same. Then I remember how I talked when I was younger and it was cringy at best. Made me like the game even more.

      • Gatsu

The dialogue is hella good :D.

    • JJBYACH

So, I just got Quantum Break, played about 2-3 hours of it yesterday, all it did was make want to play Life is Strange really bad.

Life is Strange is all about the characters and time travel is just used as another way to help explore that, whilst Quantum Break seemed to be all about time travel and the characters are made to just revolve around that plot point.

So glad this game won, it truly deserves it.

      • Gatsu

Yeah I’ve noticed QB super mixed reviews. I haven’t played it but maybe someday.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt so connected to game characters before, I love LiS :).

        • JJBYACH

Love your new profile pic btw 😛

          • Gatsu

Thx <3, I made it for Steam profile but I was thinking of using it elsewhere also :D.

@Nyxus check this Ayako re-tweet of a fan collection… Turns out you won by far this round… 😀

  • Venom_Sina

    Okay,this is embarrassing.Please don’t laugh at me,I’m innocent,lol.
When Konami confirmed this new SURVIVAL mode,I thought it would be something like Black Ops’ Zombie mode, where you have to fight waves of enemies and try to survive to get the best score.Today I updated the game and I understood it’s just a combination of other modes.I was like WTF?
Once again,I disappointed myself and MGSV was involved.I really need to keep my distance from this game, lol.

    • Isn’t this an existing mode from MGO2?

      • Venom_Sina

Yeah. You know, back in 2008 I didn’t have a speedy internet connection and I was a complete offline player. So I had zero ideas about the online mode of MGS4.I didn’t know about this and the bad thing is I didn’t research about this one for MGSV.There’s no one to blame,it was my own mistake.

    • JJBYACH

We all do stupid things. I’ve done so many it’s pretty hilarious. Just recently I accidentally deactivated my administrator and user accounts on my pc, so I couldn’t log into my computer and it was essentially useless. I had to access the command line prompt (spent hours fiddling with Windows 10 to figure out how you access it in this operating system) during the start up and edit the registry at machine code level to reactivate the accounts.

Also, when I got my new graphic card, I didn’t watch any videos or look at the physical dimensions of the card, so I had no idea how big the thing was. So when it was delivered, I quickly opened up my case to fit the card in before noticing that my case was too small. I had to disassemble the whole thing and cut a hole into the case. To make matters worse I had a test the next day and for some reason decided it would be best to spend hours screwing around with my PC instead of doing some revision.

    • Full Options

I laugh at / with you for another reason… 😀
This reason is that you don’t have to feel embarrassed (like never) in front of us Mista Venom. I am not playing much MGO neither.
Despite all, a part of you seem, through your comments, to truly love this game (for at least some aspects), far more than a lot of MGSV lovers.
      😀

      • Venom_Sina

        You know,it’s a love/hate relationship, and 90% hate,lol.
I love the series as a whole. If we want to look at the series one by one,we can cherry-pick a good amount of problems in them. For example,I had serious problems with MGS4.Its being really kills the experience of MGS2,or the whole Liquid Ocelot thing. But at the same time when I look at MGS4 I can see some great moments that I can’t really forget and these good ones are more than those bad ones.So in general I loved MGS4.
I went into the MG series because of their complex story.I loved the story moments of every MG out there.High quality cutscenes, great voice acting etc.I think my mistake was this:I went to MGSV for its story.Sure I loved the gameplay,GZ’s gameplay was really promising, but the more I got to the game, the more I disappointed. The gameplay was exactly the same with all these modern open world games which I try to avoid, lol. There are lots of ways to tackle a mission, but the options are limited to your equipment most of the time.Deus Ex and Dishonored had little maps, but different paths to the objective made their gameplay cooler imo.
Right now MGSV is the “most disappointing experience of my gaming life”.Why it’s like that?Well some of it goes back to me (maybe most of it),but some of it goes to Kojima and his hypes.

        • Full Options

I know you are mad at V, yeah, :DD
However my point was that how come I love TPP at 70-80% and you know a lot more than me about it, if you hate it at 90% ?? .. :DD
And stop collecting the dark sides of your visions about V. Try to blossom / collect the cool ones and hopefully, your severe percentage will drop at least a bit. 😀
I know, you are going to tell me that there are not much cool moments, but still, TPP is quite massive in really fun stuff to my eyes.

For example, what I really miss in TPP, is a futuristic complex enemy base, with the hexagonal walls styles like Arsenal or Kerykeion-class Outer-heaven, to infiltrate / sneak in with various phases articulated by cool cut-scenes. Due to the state of the technology in 1984, I would of course not have expected something as advanced as Arsenal, but would have loved an as modern as possible villain base, James Bondish as usual by its dimensions, with 5 to 10 Sahels inlaid in its walls and ready to be our final Boss to fight along with a top evil human boss with modern gadget armor (solidus-like, but 84 version)…

Nevertheless, knowing that I can sneak anytime in this sand-box with a that cool AI to defend all those outposts and villages is so pleasant !… At least for me ;D

  • hunner

Look’s like Hayter can still do his MGS1-3 voice. Why didn’t he sound like this in PW?

    • Mr.Pony

I see no difference between PW and the others

      • hunner

        Really?

        • Mr.Pony

          Nope, none at all

          • Leguywhodrownedquiet

            He sounds like shit imo

    • JJBYACH

The difference in voice is due to different direction – I think they wanted a mix between Old Snake and MGS3 BB but it just made him sound like he’s gargling marbles at times. And his over annunciation of the last syllables of nearly all his lines is just irritating – “Kahhzzzzz”, “Chicoohh”, “Outer Heavehhhn”.

It’s weird, some times it sounds horrible (the end speech made me wish someone else voiced Snake) sometimes I think it sounds great (Chico’s recruitment scene is one of my favourites in the entire saga – it showcases the true power of BB’s charisma and silver tongue, and Hayter’s performance really brought that to life). Honestly, I blame poor direction.

      • Venom_Sina

His best was MGS 1-2-3 imo.
Speaking of direction. In MGSV,we can hear all characters pronounce “Wolbachia” like “Wolbakia”,but in Huey’s exile cutscene,we can hear Ocelot saying “Wolbachia”.Is this a problem with sound direction, too?
