Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain headlines the PlayStation Plus free games lineup of October

PlayStation has announced its lineup for the monthly PlayStation Plus games of October 2017, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is on the list. That means that those with a PlayStation Plus account will be able to play the game for free. PlayStation Blog writes:

First up, we have the blockbuster hit Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain. The epic Metal Gear series picks up nine years after the events of MGSV: Ground Zeroes and the fall of Mother Base. An epic game for PS Plus members to replay again, or to check out for the very first time.

The European PlayStation Blog:

The culmination of three decades of cutting-edge development, Kojima Productions’ farewell to the Metal Gear universe brought together dozens of disparate elements to deliver an open-world stealth-action sandbox quite unlike any other.

As legendary soldier Big Boss, it’ll be up to you to run countless incursions into the conflict-ridden territories of Afghanistan and Central Africa as you work to liberate captured comrades and recruit new personnel to rebuild your decimated private army.

Over the course of the adventure you’ll develop new weapons, capture key targets and uncover the shadowy figures that betrayed your organisation – all in the lust for vengeance.

Here is a trailer showing the full lineup, starting off with The Phantom Pain.

  • That is sick for the subscribers. Amazing deal.

    • Also, guys play the first Amnesia game. It is the best horror game in the PS3/X360 era. If you enjoyed PT, this one will be an amazing experience for you for sure.
Machine for pigs was done by another studio and it is ok, but the first one is super awesome.

Played it. It’s okayish game. First hour is kindа scary, the rest of the game is not though. The main problem is AI. Maybe I was unlucky and AI glitched, but somehow monster always found me even in the darkest corners of the levels. So after two or three deaths I was like “Okay, are you going to kill me again? Do it fast, so I will load previous checkpoint and replay this section”. I guess frustration with AI killed the game for me 🙁

        • Yeah, AI is a bit clunky. But you need to expect this from an indie developer. When I play indie games I always have low expectations when it comes to AI/graphics in these games.

But as a horror game it was the best for it’s days. IMO

This is so exciting! I can get so many friends who’ve never played it before to finally play!

  • Maik O’Bannon

I can see tons of new nukes coming…
This may not be good to get total disarmament and really beat the game.
Or is it a better chance to make it?

    • Eugene Voldo

Konami wants to see how we suffer trying to disarm every single nuke and failing miserably.
Peace was just an illusion after all. (4-wall breaking from Kojima!)

R* have been shady since quote some time . Microtransactions, disappointing GTA V and all . This trailer has been disappointing and no gameplay yet . Will wait for this one.

      • Tom Brearley-Smith

In terms of R* games, I very much liked GTA IV, adored Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire, but my liking towards GTA V dwindled when I played the story mode again on PS4 (plus the online multiplayer component).
What baffles me is people criticise the first Destiny or Metal Gear Solid V for having mediocre stories, but when GTA V has a mediocre story, it suddenly gets a free pass.

Gta IV had amazing writing and had character arcs . Remind me Trevor’s character arc again?

  • The End

GVMERS just expanded their brilliantly produced documentary series by a video about the history of Metal Gear. Any thoughts?

The MGSV world will surely never be nuclear free now.

    • moto hellogoto

Maybe Kojima knew we would never disarm all the nuclear bombs and this is his super genius hidden message to us. That nuclear bombs will always exist, and it’s up to us to decide how to live with them. えーーー?!

With super genius Kojima San the obvious and straightforward meaning of something is baka. We have to look at it from 5 different angles, simultaneously you guys. It’s like playing 4d chess! すごいねー!

This will affect PlayStation platforms only, which are not the favorites in the challenge anyways.

        True

  • Welp there goes chapter 3
