Watch Kojima receive his Lifetime Achievement Award at the Brasil Game Show

At the Brasil Game Show 2017, taking place October 11 – 15, Hideo Kojima was presented a Lifetime Achievement Award for his accomplishments throughout his 30 year career. The award was presented to him by a Brazilian fan who was able to gather the most mentions on Twitter in a contest set up by the organization.

This isn’t the first time Kojima has received an award like this. Earlier he was presented with an Industry Icon Award at TGA 2016, Development Legend at Develop Awards 2016, MVP Award at Famitsu Awards 2015, Hall of Fame Award at DICE and a Golden Joystick Lifetime Achievement Award, among other various awards for his work over the years. His latest awards are displayed in a glass cabinet at the entrance of his new studio.

  • New MG1 animation scene by Mitchell Hammond:

    More info here: http://www.metalgearinformer.com/?p=29847

    • moto hellogoto

Looks great but I don’t think Snake would toss a silencer into the air in the middle of a fight. There’s no tactical advantage to it, but that’s a small gripe. I’d love to see a continuation of this with him using that grenade launcher.

      • No tactical advantage whatsoever. πŸ˜€

        • moto hellogoto

Maybe in the next video he’ll spin the grenade launcher around and smile at the camera lol. It wouldn’t be like Snake at all but I’d get a good laugh out of it.

          • Well there is this scene. It’s Naked Snake instead of Solid but still

            https://youtu.be/qLNcdWdLIz4?t=442

          • moto hellogoto

Well Snake isn’t fighting anyone in this mgs3 scene and in his mind no one knows he is there. In the animation above Snake kills some guys but clearly doesn’t think it’s safe because he moves out of the room with his gun aimed. So it’s not really the same.

          • No it’s not. Although when the throws the butterfly high into the air, someone might have seen it.

          • moto hellogoto

True, unless he has already killed everyone in the room or put the people who might see it asleep. We don’t know the canon.

          • Maybe he took them out so he could play with his C3 without being disturbed. πŸ˜›

And as a public speaker I really am jealous of you since you probably have never heard rambling in a debate .When I was kid , the opposing team responded by saying “Bosses tend to favour female employees who are more stylish and attractive” . That was the first time I heard such a retarded thing and I was scarred for life πŸ™ .

I would love to see David voice Snake (Big Boss) as a Villain, and given the animated aspect of this, it will fit the over the top take of David!

I agree with you about MGSV, but that is Konami’s problem, and while KP deserves to have actually finished their game, it was Konami which pulled the plug, Kojima and his team can’t touch MGS anymore in any fashion.

Well, kinda boring here, so why not make a theory about Venom, Big Boss, and Frank Jager, and why Python&Selkan we’re right, but they missed those important hints.

How i know those are actual hints? Simple, 1 of the rules in Cinema, either Movie, TV or VG for that matter, is Set up and Pay off, so here’s a few examples.

    Solid Snake:

-Set up: I forgot who, but in MGS1 someone told Solid Snake, that he looks older than he should have
-Pay off: In MGS4, it’s revealed that Solid was made to age rapidly after a certain point in his life.

    Meryl:

-Set up: In MGS1 she is a Rookie, but she shows potential
-Pay off: In MGS4 that potential is achieved, she becomes one of The Best Soldiers

    Now, theory

    Venom Snake:
-Set up: He loses his identity, he has to take Big Boss’s place, and he get’s Cyber Enhancements.
-Pay off: He is defeated by Solid, but then brought back to life as a Cyborgn Ninja, after he get’s his identity back, but loses his humanity with it.

    How is that possible.

We know there were 2 Big Bosses (Venom and John) but we have no clue as to which is which, unless we look closely.

First we gotta assume that the Player Name in TPP, our name, is a placeholder for Frank Jager, that we are given the choice to name Gray Fox, that we the players are Gray Fox.

Theory: After Big Boss, John, assumes the face identity of Venom in 1984, he goes to build Outer Heaven, but then nottices Venom has lost control, so he sends Solid Snake to kill Venom, now after that he infiltrates to Help a young Solid Snake achieve his goal, under the identity of Frank Jager, after Venom is defeated, Big Boss sees no choice but to once again become Big Boss, but he can’t let Venom die, so he brings him back as the Cyborg Ninja “Gray Fox, but then Big Boss, the real Big Boss get’s burned and put in to a long coma.
After that, Gray Fox is free, so he get’s his identity back, Frank Jager, but keeps Big Boss’s face, he is both now, he is both Man (Big Boss) and Machine (Loyal Pupet Soldier) making him a Cyborg both Physically and Metaphorically, So he wants revenge on Solid, but then finds peace in MGS1!
Years later, The Real Big Boss emerges, and dies in the Cemetary in MGS4. The End!

    Now, Big Boss
-Set-Up: He assumes the Identity and Face of Venom, Frank Jager
-Pay Off: He uses that identity to infiltrate in Outer Heaven, to help him get his Big Boss identity back.

    • Lex Radu

      Bonus
      Gray Fox:

-Set Up: Missing Right Eye, and Scars over his face
-Pay Off: The Reveal of matching identical scars and missing right eye for both Venom and Fox, making them 1 and the same person.

      Big Boss:
-Set up: No Scars in MGS4, alltough 1 “Big Boss” Artwork in MGS4 exposition scene featured Scars and the Shrapnell.
Pay-off: Reveal in MGSV that Big Boss never had those scars, that he used a Body Double to achieve his Goals, that he didn’t listen to The Boss, that there wasn’t place for 2 Bosses, which then backfired on him, prooving the Boss right.

Hideo Kojima: “Where are my fellow hollywood actors? No hours-long cut-scenes too? Boy, you neet to try again next time!”
IIkka Paananen: “Why do I even waste my time on reviewing kiddy games? Better play Clash of Clans. It worth every minute of my life!”
Vince Zampella: “…Shitty gameplay no scope 360”

Seriously, only Kim Swift has something to say about games made by students. Because, you know, her first game was a student game which later become Portal.
Other guys there is just for PR I guess.

      • Full Options

Eugene, I find you a bit expeditious. Their resume don’t make them inappropriate reviewers. They will judge the most professional looking approaches for a student regardless of their respective paths in the industry. They should only evaluate the game as a whole product / idea more than the student context in which it was developed.

They all have a vision of what is implied at all stages of production so they can very well evaluate all together pros and weak-points to reward the best idea, aside their respective vision of a game project. They may of course be influenced by their individual tastes, but the main drill for the jury is to stay as objective as possible as a group of reviewers. I am sure they’ll manage to reach the best consensus for this award.

        • Also, Kojima’s favorite games tend to be very different from his own. Some recent ones are Framed from Joshua Boggs and Inside (his favorite game of last year).

          • Full Options

As well, Kojima in the mid-80’s was also a student, whereas the difference was that there were no official academic courses and his school / university was Konami.
When he first worked on Penguin adventure we can easily imagine him being confronted to heavy technical difficulties letting him appreciate how resources and execution should be properly balanced in a very weak execution and poor memory environment.
Things like that easily puts him in the shoes of someone that can tell if a given student really pushed all the available assets of his project to nowadays limits.
I believe they should probably evaluate which one was able to stick together like many pieces of puzzle (or legos xD) in the most fluid / homogeneous manner.

        • Eugene Voldo

I understand your point. But I still think that it would be better to include some indie devs like Croteam (which originally was just a “garage studio” like garage bands in music) or Team Meat instead of using big AAA names. But I fully understand that from PR standpoint “Todd Howard” and “Hideo Kojima” worth much more than Croteam.

          • Full Options

Ok, but as an indy, would you appreciate a triumph elected by Croteam or Kojima & co ? That’s PR as well for the laureate then ..

    • Full Options

That’s sad, but on this shot, I really can’t share his point of view of this sequel.
I am an extreme like an extreme fan of Blade Runner and the principal problem I have with this sequel is that they explain and spoil every single subtleties and mysteries of the masterpiece within the very first 15 minutes of the movie instead of keeping, like in the original, suggesting the secrets hidden which is really unacceptable.
2049 benefits from the aura / originality of the first movie’s story and more specifically Philip Kindred Dick’s, but adds like nothing at all.

Many people see it like a movie a bit too much dedicated to fans, but I think it is actually the opposite, essentially targeting new-comers, by giving them tons of explications that tend to end up superficial, instead of elegantly make the audience do the math on its own.

Maybe I was too hyped, Villeneuve is very talented and Scott was behind the prod, however to me, 2049 is far to deliver the expected combo pace / suspense of the original, and mimics it only graphically . Visuals are stunning but the story is too obvious and naive.
Sorry Boss on that, but I truly experienced this shot in theater as a sad failure, whereas for example Fury Road totally delivered what I wanted of Mad Max (an extra 20 minutes would have been appreciated though).

You guys know I am rarely rude like that and often an easy movie watcher, but I checked my watch 4 to 5 times in the theater, to the point I wondered if I should leave (?!)… Unbelievable… Maybe I am alone the problem, xD..
      I hope I won’t trigger any incomprehension around.. ;D

      • No Place For Hayter

Nope you are not, I don’t even have to watch the film to know it is sub-par at best. I only need to know 2 things. 1 it is an old super popular franchise (movie) and it is being brought back to make money, not the the love of it, not because their actually is a sequel in the story, but only for money, this is mainly because that is the new MAKE MONEY trend (specifically hollywood) taking old popular franchises and making new sequels to them, again not for soul or love, but for money. 2 because it is from hollywood, rarely does anything good come from hollywood, RARELY. Hollywood forces way to much creative control for anything to be good as well as forcing certain story cliches, but the biggest problem is them creating and forcing political agendas and pushing social justice propaganda, as an added bonus the Chinese own a lot of hollywood and will eventually (a year or two) own all of it, so of course that means pro Chinese messages in all films (whcih already exists in plenty, along with token Chinese inserts) and pro communism messages as well. It’s ironic how the original Blade Runner showed and condemned the Chinese take over of society and yet here we have a sequel made by a business industry being bought out by the Chinese. I have not seen the film, I don’t even know what studio/s are behind the film, but I would not be surprised if the new blade runner painted the previous negative tone of Chinese into a positive one. Hollywood is one giant cesspool that spits out politically and socially charged propaganda garbage, a place with zero creativity and fun, The new blade runner films story is probably simply stolen or copied from elsewhere, a source of course they probably butchered by shoving popular trends and agendas and political messages in, that OR the story is an obvious cliche ridden crap-fest that was simply designed around the agendas they want to push plus a basic story frame of obvious cliches to act as a means to move the message to the audience.

        • Full Options

Haha, thanks No Place, I just wanted to make sure I would not hurt the most 2049-passionate hearts around here. I could have been a lot more aggressive last week, but this is how the pressure came down since then. I am still terribly mad at them.

Hollywood forces way to much creative control for anything to be good as well as forcing certain story cliches
… OR the story is an obvious cliche ridden crap-fest that was simply designed around

You are getting close to what I felt here.
Whether politically propelled or not, why oh why such desperate money quests prevent them to have an actual brain so bad.
At least they could camouflage this with great and not too complicated ideas instead of keeping it like Blade Runner 101 for decerebrated noobs that were yet “bored by the first one”..(?!) Ooops, I am getting rude / entering the dark side now.. xD

The story is so poor / obvious and could have been awesome with very simple plot tricks. Heavy spoiler ahead, I suggest to avoid reading the following if you still plan to watch it in theater (just come back after) :
For instance instead of spoiling the audience with the fact that agent K is a replicant within the 5 first minutes,
and basically having a Blade Runner simple life, they could have for example maintain the suspense on whether he is indeed a replicant or human by first giving him a normal name. Possibly sent to first hunt Deckard instead of searching him for answers.
THEN Deckard could have revealed him he is as well possibly a replicant, first twist of the original story officialiazed somehow in the middle of this opus. Then they could have analyze the skin / blood and determined -new plot twist- that K is in fact possibly a human (or a more advanced model designed to not be detected, maintaining this question open until the end of the movie, btw).
So that the company is now literally using humans without any legal consent, since they are more controllable than replicants, hereby hinting at the fact that replicants are in the end more humans and less enslavable than us in their quest for freedom…Dunno, some sh.t like that would have been a bit more digest to me..

Yeah, I sometimes share Kojima’s feelings regarding movies, but I also sense him a bit over-enthusiastic regarding some movies.
But he has very particular tastes and I am generally in sync, but he also rarely criticize things that he don’t like so it is not always obvious to figure out where he sometimes position himself.

          • No Place For Hayter

Don’t worry about the passionate hearts, (or at least I wouldn’t, lol) if someone gets hurt by someone elses opinion (no matter how its worded) they are retarded and need to grow up, they are on the internet you will find an opposite opinion on everything from rational to irrational reasons. I get it though you are being nice, lol.

“prevent them to have an actual brain so bad”
This is a good question, I guess people with creativity or brains either leave or are eaten up by that kind of industry. Ultimately though stupid is as stupid does, not an easy question, with no easy answer, lol.

“but he also rarely criticize things that he don’t like”
This is partly why I’m appear so negative most of the time, because it is the general consensus especially in you are a big name is you shouldn’t/can’t criticize anything. Agreed though, it is really hard to know someones taste when you only hear about what they like and not also what they don’t like.

I don’t like the idea of a positive echo chamber, or an echo chamber of any sort, which is why I’ll be the first to criticize or insult anything MG even though this is a news site directed towards MG, because the community tends towards a positive outlook on things MG, so I’ll tends towards a negative approach to it. This is also why I tend towards long responses full of many ideas, I don’t like the idea of simply agree and moving on, because doing that without contributing to any form of conversation of actual thinking only helps create an echo chamber, usually if I have nothing to contribute, I won’t at all, lol.

I think the biggest problem stems from the idea of being critical or criticizing something, is rude or mean, and needs to be hounded over. For example if you love something, you can shout it as loud as the want on the internet, all you will get is people whom also love it agreeing with you, but if you hate something and say so, not only will you be considered rude by just saying so, but you will be insulted and hounded by those whom love what you hate, and you will also be hounded for long explanations for why you hate said product and if you can’t provide that and more you will looked down upon. Due to this people with a big name to themselves, or not the care, or time to address these issues to the fans liking, simply don’t say anything negative about anything, those who do say negative things most of the time simply don’t give a crap what other people think, and don’t have to justify themselves or their opinion. IMHO saying something is good without explaining why is just as much as a disservice as saying its bad without explaining why, due to this online nature I’m always ready to explain point by point why I hate or Love something, but most people can’t explain why they love something beyond vague feelings as they are never pressured for more detailed thoughts. Honestly though nothings better then enjoying a product with a few friends or family and really talking about it afterwords.

            Well that’s enough ranting

It is so hard, after all TPP is only 2 years old, a new MGS6 would have taken at least 3-4 years, close to a 2020 release and they f.ckn had to adapt to a totally different engine / tech team…
Erhh.. I believe he’ll share some dynamite soon, but keeping the timing in mind, he is in fact definitely not supposed or obliged to at all..

We all die for a gameplay footage, but delivering an enough polished one would be still outstanding, given the timing.
Also aiming at / forced to create something different in most aspects.
He is a wizard so I am convinced he’ll manage to narrow to the essential..
It would be sad but even with nothing or another cut-scene for PSX would be perfectly ok.
I can yet imagine the undeserved backlash if he show nothing this year, but we are fortunate that he should normally not give a d.mn about it and simply concentrate on objectives.
I am confident we’ll have something juicy enough at PSX.
I would love to see them at GDC 2018 (the session scheduler is still last year’s for now). Fingers crossed.
