Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection US boxart and info

After it appeared on Amazon, Konami officially announced the release date and price for Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection for North America. They also released a picture of the US version, which looks similar to the Japanese one, but has some slight differences.

Konami also provided a little bit of information on the content of the art book. It will contain ‘rare marketing art from around the globe’. A single picture of the book can be seen here.

The set will release on July 9 for a price of $49,99. It will include the HD Collection (MGS2, MGS3 and MGS:PW), MGS4, Metal Gear 1 and 2, MGS1 and MGS VR Missions as a digital download and the two digital novels by Ashley Wood (it is the first time the second digital novel is being released outside of Japan).

“Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection contains every canon Metal Gear release”
-Dalton Link, Social Media Manager, Konami

Finally, we can leave that crap in Portable Ops behind.
Saw it coming from a mile away.

    • Portable Ops is canon. Kojima didn’t include it cause it is not “A Hideo Kojima Game”.

      • JMG2

        Can you read?

The Legacy Collection has every canon game, as Dalton Link (Konami’s Social Media Manager) stated. The Legacy Collection has Metal Gear 1, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Guess what’s missing?

Not only that, but the two most recent timelines have completely omitted any mention of Portable Ops or the San Heironymo incident. The second timeline (for The Legacy Collection) also has the Kojima Productions logo. Both timelines are advertised on Kojima Production’s official Japanese site.
(Look to your left. You find both “The Truth” and “MGS: The Legacy Collection.”)

The only reference to MPO in Peace Walker, which takes place a mere four years after MPO, is Miller saying “finally we can leave that crap behind.” After that, it is COMPLETELY ignored. Think about that, for a moment; the only time MPO is mentioned, is when it’s called “crap.”
        ^Read. Comprehend. THINK

        • Portable Ops will be canon forever… in our hearts, at least =p

        • The fact Portable Ops event was mentioned in Peace Walker makes it canon. I know Kojima didn’t like Portable Ops much and maybe he wish that game never existed in the first place, but it is still canon. Not including it doesn’t make it any less canon. The story is canon.

Don’t forget that the gameplay in Peace Walker and soon to be experienced in a whole new level in MGSV was inspired by Portable Ops.

            “Leave that crap behind”
Dalton Link, Konami’s Social Media manager, said that The Legacy Collection has all of the canon games.

          • They never said “canon”, they said the Legacy will contain only “A Hideo Kojima Game” games.

    • PrinceHeir

lol MGS Portable Ops IS Canon.

whether you like it or not.

*SPOILERS for Peace Walker, Portable Ops and MGS4.

it reveal at the end of Portable Ops that the Boss’s death was set up by a particular person that would play an important role in Peace Walker(Coldman) <<<< this right here is the most solid evidence that it is Canon. mentioning Coldman before Peace Walker was even made.

Ocelot managed to got back the other half of the legacy

MGS4 reference with the paintings, as well theme song of the game.

Peace Walker mentioned Big Boss did fight the first Metal Gear(Raxa), but it seems they didn't want to elaborate more with the conversation Heuy.

      some contradictions to Peace Walker:

the biggest is no Null(WTF im pretty sure he's by his side by now),

no young Roy Cambell and old Fox unit like Para Medic, Zero, Sigint.

Big Boss could have use the funds(talking about millions) that he got from Gene to build his own base instead of getting one from Galvez)

Portable Ops had a rouge Fox group that is led by Gene, and it's miles better than Machine only boss fights in Peace Walker.

Gene is also the best character since Liquid. the relationship between him and Big Boss pretty much mirrors the one with Liquid Snake and Solid Snake.

i was hoping he was the one that will have a rival with Big Boss(not Zero) plus he was created to be a successor to The Boss.

      he's other codename is "Viper"

      so Snake vs Viper?!?!

      that would have been amazing!!!

      so wtf happened!!!?!?!

putting Zero as the enemy made NO SENSE watsoever.

the only reason Portable Ops is not included, is just as everyone said, it was not MADE by Kojima himself.

same thing with Metal Gear Rising, it IS also canon, but it's not part of the collection.

      • Nyxus

But Zero being the founder of The Patriots was also established in Portable Ops (and the fact that it was Ocelot who wanted Big Boss to join).

        • JMG2

          So did MGS4.
My god, a Konami representative said that a MGS collection that doesn’t have MPO has EVERY canon game in it. What is everyone’s DEAL?

          • Nyxus

But Portable Ops did it before MGS4, so MGS4 continued what was already stated in PO. In that sense, there is a story continuity.

Don’t forget that Metal Gear Rising was called ‘canon’ in an interview, yet it isn’t in the collection. That’s because the collection only includes ‘Hideo Kojima games’. The whole canon thing is pretty confusing though.

      • JMG2

        Konami representative’s quote >>>> You
“Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection contains every canon Metal Gear release”
-Dalton Link, Social Media Manager, Konami

Pardon me for using common sense to determine what this means.
Please, just “leave that crap behind” already. It’s over. It’s done.

        • PrinceHeir

          lol at US Konami representative

as if the US branch have connections to the actual Kojima Productions company. not to mention their not the official spokesman of the company.

i bet he doesn’t even know there’s a hideo blog lol.

also the fact it remains that they still continued to acknowledge the game through various backstory as well as it became a huge role in Peace Walker(albeit Coldman).

they could have drop the series and not be mention in MGS4, but ooops it’s actually there not to mention part of the MGS Database(as outdated as it is)

keep deluding yourself please, it makes me laugh when people try hard to dismiss this game

          FACTS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Your head.

1.) (preceding a singular noun) Used to refer to all the individual members of a set without exception.
2.) Used before an amount to indicate something happening at specified intervals: “tours every thirty minutes”.
“Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection contains EVERY canon Metal Gear release”
-Dalton Link, Social Media Manager, Konami

For those new to the English language.

  • Enzo

    What a shame that it’s a digital novel :/

    • Nyxus

But it’s with animation and sound, that’s pretty cool. What I’m wondering though, MGS2 digital graphic novel had voice acting in Japan, what have they done with that? Since it’s all in Japanese.

      • PrinceHeir

actually while japan has it video style, the US actually got it in comic form called Metal Gear Solid Omnibus(includes both MGS1 and MGS2 comics)

i have it and it’s fun to read, they did however change one of the personalities of Psycho Mantis.

though i prefer the video version since it has voices 🙂

i’ll probably watch the video and read the comic at the same time by the release date 🙂

        • Nyxus

Yes, they were released in Europe in comic form as well. But still, since this is the digital version that comes with The Legacy Collection, I wonder if they just cut out the voices, or left them as they were, or did something else.

          • PrinceHeir

they might leave the voices in the ENG, and keep the JPN ones(since it’s pretty much done)

then again they might rerecord it?

but Bande Desinee 2 wasn’t recorded in english back then?

so Hayter might reprise his role 🙂

          • Nyxus

I can’t imagine them taking the effort of recording the voices. The digital novel is just an extra in the collection, and not everyone will be interested in it. So I would be surprised if they actually went to the recording studio for that.

  • nekkedsnake

MPO is also mentioned in MGS4. When Snake is talking to Naomi. the whole list of MGS canons is being scrolled down the screen and MPO is mentioned with box art.

  • GiantEneyCrap

i know the japanesse digital graphic novel 2 had voice overs done by the voice actors will the same be done for the american release or will it have no voice overs?

    • Nyxus

That’s what I’m wondering, but they haven’t said anything about that.

  • If MGS1 was remade with better graphics (or if this version was twin snake) i’d consider getting it but i already have the HD Collection, MGS as a digital download, and MGS4

I’m glad to tell you that both have voice overs, I have my copy here and it’s playing right now. Seems like it’s new recordings too… They’re using different actors for Ocelot and Gray Fox for sure… maybe more changes, can’t say for sure yet.
