Metal Gear REX (‘partially destroyed’ MGS4 version) by Kotobukiya – pictures and details

Kotobukiya has opened pre-orders for a new figure: the MGS4 version of Metal Gear REX. The 1/100 scale figure is around 22 cm tall and has a ‘partially destroyed look’ to it. It also comes with three small figurines: Old Snake, Raiden and MkII. The figure will release in October of this year for a price of around ¥10.000 (€83 / $94).

    83€? That’s actually pretty reasonable. Who’d have thunk…

    • Yeah but remember these things are model kits. So you have to put them together yourself.

      • I remember when I tried to glue some figure parts together when I was younger, well the result wasn’t very good lol… Maybe if I give it another shot I can do it better now :3. To be honest, I dunno how they’re put together these days.

  • I still remember that amazing battle from MGS4. The moment they gave me REX for total control, that was such a good moment. Metal Gear RAY Boss fight was also great. Some parts even were destructible for that level. For 2008 it was very impressive.

    • Yeah, that was awesome. The first time we were actually able to control a Metal Gear, and the most iconic one in the series too.

Probably the most legendary MGS4 moment for me, but there was much awesome sequences… The Duel Raiden – Vamp, crying Wolf, the Boxing ending with Ocelot, the radio-active tunnel… After a that long wait for the release, I remember how the first stages and those chapter cards were driving me crazy while progressing with Meryl + Rat Patrol too :DD

This game is an incredible masterpiece.

Yeah, awesome indeed, I will remember forever the feeling of :

“Wait, that’s not fair, how come Ocelot has a brand new RAY !?” 😀

  • I wish I could get this but my Model Kit days are over. I’m waiting for my nephews to grow up a little bit so I can give them my Gundam Collection. It’s a sad thing really when I’m at that point in my life.

I remember how I kept refreshing this website as the elegia trailer was streaming at e3. That was the first trailer I ever saw that gave me literal chills. My hype for TPP was too high – I was even having reoccurring dreams of the game.

  • DAMN IT! I loved The Witcher 3. I just finished Blood and Wine and I gotta say it’s one of the best expansions in gaming history. I love all the fun they had with the quests and all the many Easter eggs. That proves to me once more that CD Projekt Red is one of the best Developers in the world. They know how to make a great game. I mean there were some Game of Thrones references, Dark Souls references. They finally and brilliantly addressed why Roach is such a crazy glitchy horse to ride. LOL I’m happy I got to play this game. Now, I finally got a PS4 and I’m ready for Uncharted 4

I haven’t finished it yet, but from the 30 hours I’ve played (only at the bit where you just meet Regis) it’s fantastic. I don’t think the story is as good as Heart of Stone (imo Heart of Stone has one of the best stories ever experienced). God, I love the Witcher as franchise – I love the postmodern subtext about the nature of fairy tales and folk lore, the characters, the atmosphere. It’s like an M rated version of a Shrek with the darkest of humor. If you’ve played Heart of Stone I recommend watching this analysis:

I’m just gonna stop fanboying over the game now 😛

      Reply
      • Personally. I believe the story is better than Heart of Stone. Like Regis puts it in a late game quest. “The plot thickens” I was lucky to get one of the awesome endings.

Their rise to fame is just incredible. Looking at Witcher 1 and comparing it to Witcher 3 – a very strong direction and talented team is required for such a quick evolution.

Let’s say that if we don’t get any Koji-tweet of him boarding today, he won’t be there. I would say we have maybe 10-15% chance left.
If he flies with JAL, there are 2 flights to LAX left. Only one is direct at 01:00am (June 14, Japan time), which would land him in LA at 19:20 (would be still 13 June / evening there) 😀

Yea FE looks really good :D.

    • It looks really good. I’m not a big fan of Mass Effect games because it’s more of a shooter than Real RPG, but so far I’m very interested in it. I like exploration in these games.

Battlefield 1 is also looking good in the trailers.

What’s interesting is that most of the AAA games now look great on consoles and PC at E3. I hope so that Kojima’s new game will look like a next gen title =(

Anytime I hear cords from Suicide Mission from Mass Effect 2 I get chills.

It’s a crying shame we didn’t get to see any gameplay. But it’s probably better that way, since if they only show gameplay from the near/already completed build no one can scream about downgrades or cut features.

      • Yep let’s hope EA won’t screw it up anyway. It will be exciting to see what Andromeda has. Bioware can do anything with a whole new galaxy and cast.

Suicide Mission OST always gives me the chills too ;). I recently finished ME2 again and maan….that suicide mission is always so incredible combined with Shepard’s speeches. I actully listened it and Vigil song yesterday when I saw this xD. I hope ME:A games will have some epic villain similar to the Reapers and epic OST also.

This is one of my favorite walkthrough videos of ME2, he’s got pretty much my kind of reaction in the ending when I first played it, if I remember correctly :). I was like ooooh my gooood .

Did anyone actually watch the EA press conference? When I went to college today all my friends were telling me about the insane BS that went on there. I thought they were joking when they said Snoop Dog, Wiz Khalifa and a bunch of random celebrities camera on to play Battlefield 1, and barely any of them knew how to play video games. And my God, they weren’t joking.

    https://youtu.be/wPSN9sTQCf4?t=6546

The camera zooms into Snoop Dogs monitor and you see him stuck in a small trench walking into the wall. I haven’t gotten that far, but apparently at some point Snoop Dog pulls out a joint and starts smoking in mid game (my friends could just be taking the piss at this point, I hope not). From the little I’ve seen from that press conference, it embodies everything wrong with the gaming industry.
