Metal Gear Survive release date and price announced, pre-order bonus detailed
After teasing an announcement regarding Metal Gear Survive yesterday, today Konami has revealed the release date for the game. Metal Gear Survive will launch in the US on February 20th 2018 for $39.99, and in Europe on February 22nd for €39.99.
The game is an expansion of the Metal Gear Solid V experience, adding co-op and survival elements into the mix. You play as a group of MSF soldiers who, after the destruction of their former Mother Base, are sucked into a wormhole and transported to another dimension. There they must work together to survive as they are relentlessly attacked by ‘creatures’, zombie-like beings.

Konami Digital Entertainment breaks new ground with an original spin-off from METAL GEAR SOLID V titled METAL GEAR SURVIVE. This title introduces a fresh spirit of exploration, unique mechanics and strategic co-op gameplay.
METAL GEAR SURVIVE is a survival action game in an alternative universe. In a struggle to survive, and understand this new environment, players engage in both a Single Play and connected CO-OP Play. In the battle for survival scavenged materials must be wrought into usable items, gear and weapons if you are to have any hope of making it home.
Key Features:
- Two ways to play – Single Play and CO-OP Play. These modes are linked via Base Camp. Character progress and gear carries between the two modes.
- Build and develop your Base Camp. This offers access to weapon and gear crafting. As well as offering you a command centre for planning missions in Single Play and CO-OP Play.
- Gather resources for use in crafting including blue prints and raw materials. These can be gathered in Single play by exploring the environment or won in successful CO-OP missions
- Develop Base camp with new facilities to aid survival – including crop growing, animal rearing, food and water storage. As your camp develops you’ll gain access to high grade crafting items.
- Manage resources, including human essentials such as food and water as well as raw materials used for weapons, defences and expendables.

There will also be a Day One Survival Pack for those who pre-order the game. This pack includes gold plated weapons, gestures, face paint, scarves, a ‘Boxman’ accessory and a Mother Base nameplate.

$40? I thought it was going to be 20 or 30 bucks. Strange. And still nothing concrete about single player campaign. I mean, I’m pretty optimistic about this whole project, but Konami should show a little bit more of the game, expecially SP content, to convince me to spend 40 bucks.
Well, GZ was originally going to be 40 (on PS4 and Xbox One at least), and Survive looks like it will be longer. But yeah, some more info on the single player would be welcome indeed.
I am confident with the length if compared to GZ. Merceron said GZ was small because they could not stream assets at all. They were obliged to load everything in RAM, so the main caveat was last gens memory limit. But he added that this experience was not that negative, since they developed a way to load some AI computations inside the GPU’s memory, which was according to them quite challenging at this time.
I bet we will have a lot more missions and numerous situations / environments in the Afghanistan map.

Anyone else notice the boat on the screens looks exactly the same as the one where Eli is? Also 40€ seems a bit too much for a new game mode. Also no pre-order bonus for PC? weird

Reused asset to me, which again just makes the game look like a quick cash grab, for 40€ i would have hoped not to see that kind of practice.
Yeah it is what it is, let’s hope the game will at least be enjoyable.
You may have noticed that the ruins of Mother Base are taken from the TPP base, not the GZ base, and that they didn’t even bother removing the Diamond Dogs logo.
Yeah, there are various anachronisms of such, like the Walker Gear will be designed by Huey in 84, whereas GZ is based in 75.
We are not sure if they really messed everything that bad or if this “alternate dimension” mixes epochs, somehow…
Some clarifications are clearly needed.

Is there any story in this game at all besides the “how they got there” scene? I can’t tell if marketing is solely trying to sell on its gameplay or if there’s just no story, and a good story is the only thing that might get me to buy this.
All we know is that it’s about the soldiers trying to find their way home, and find the answers of the world they’re in (the origin of the mist the world is shrouded in).

I am still open minded about this game, but for 40 euros I would like a liiiitle bit more information or gameplay video detailing contents of SP for example. If I spend at least half the time I spent in TPP (around 250 hours I think) it would very well be worth the price, but definitely no pre-order with this lack of information.

The textures are so awful. I mean… whatever…
There will be no singleplayer experience. Basically Single-play coop experience with nerfed zombies. So it’s just a game-mode with reskin.
The textures are probably not in their final state, otherwise… very low res and no normal maps or bumps of any sort, uurrggh !! ;D
I think the game could have some interest though. Anyways hard to tell without any test.

We will see but even official, I heavily doubt you’ll see something that poorly textured in-game.. I can’t believe they will let it like that, that’s impossible xD, it must be something like a lower mip-map level for testing purposes before fine-tuning it.

I wouldn’t look too much into this, sure it looks awfull but if you look at any other screens they released, they all look as good as TPP, someone probably screwed up or it still a work in progress

Hey, Buddy glad to have news from you. All those new things will make you experience more things and leave less time to miss the ground, I believe. The blue is the perfect place to forget about the ground however.
The game is as old as Metal Gear my friend (1987), so for nowadays standards, I would say, ehhh… But could be interesting for you to compare with MG to see how Boss was ahead. It was very enjoyable though but not even reaching 5% of MG1..
There were not much games back then.. If compared to MG at this time, yeah it fairly sucks, but we had a lot of hours of fun beating it with friends nevertheless.. ;D
And Ocean distributed 50/50 crap/good titles.
I guess for today you may find it a bit too awkward, you’ll have to draw a map to beat it…
Who knows i might check it out somewhere.
