Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the best selling PS4 game in Japan
Famitsu published a list of the best selling PlayStation 4 games in Japan (sales estimates), and the first place goes to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, with 438,478 copies sold. In doing so, it even manages to beat Knack, which was originally bundled with every PS4 console.
Here is the full list:
1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain – 438,478 copies sold
2. Knack – 400,888 copies sold
3. Call of Duty Black Ops III – 356,468 copies sold
4. Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below – 329,934 copies sold
5. Dark Souls III – 321,931 copies sold
Metal Gear Solid V has been a commercial succes, selling 3 million copies worldwide in its first week.

That is great for Konami. Maybe they are secretly making Next Gen Metal Gear Stealth title with fantastic and deep stealth gameplay and complicated story. There is a market for it even in Japan where Mobile market is above traditional videogame market.

I think it’s more of a certainty than a maybe, a lot of people would disagree but konami aren’t dumb, I don’t know if they wanna continue the solid series but I think it’s safer just to begin a new series with mostly different characters. Metal gear is a huge universe and there is more to it than just the snakes so I think another series has a lot of potential.

For some reason Konami hasn’t provided the numbers. We do know that the series as a whole sold 8 million copies since the release of MGSV (or rather since March of 2015), so a large part of that should be MGSV.

xbox one version is our only Hope of ever seeing that cutscene. 7000 nukes on the pc version is just nuts though – If it were for steam only then we’d never see it.

Would be cool to have extra-stuff. The dataminers believe it would require a patch in all cases. Our actual copies does not seem to contain more than the cut-scene, according to them. “Survive” being yet scheduled, they must be like 100% at it, so we may guess that chances are near zero, but who knows how they exactely keep supporting TPP and developing Survive at the same time ? There is also Definitive Ex that could potentially embed some cool stuff, but chances are near zero on this one too. I hope we will be positively surprised.

Like a lot of things in regards to war and politics, it’s just more convenient.
I think nuclear deterrence appears on the surface to be so effective because it quickly locks you and your opponent in a perpetual cycle of inaction. The problem is that being under constant threat of catastrophic destruction builds tension within the societies of those involved, and the whole cycle can easily break just as easy as it was to start up if someone decides to use there nuke. So yeah, it can stabilize the world but just as easily destroy it – a double edged sword.

Of course, nations without nuclear weapons have been and are still screwed, as seen with the various wars and genocides in Africa and other places, as well as the proxy wars and insurgencies supported by the superpowers.
However, to be able to say whether it’s better or worse than what could have been is impossible without being able to see alternate realities. There were all kinds of possibilities, such as if the USA had remained the sole nuclear power, whether it would have become increasingly isolationist or use them as either a weapon or a threat to gain territorial and economic advantages, etc. Or whether a nuclear WWIII would have devastated mankind or come to a rapid ceasefire.

Interesting, regarding Battle Gear, the collision template does not match but can someone tell if the underneath vehicle behavior is indeed BG’s ? I mean, do you guys clearly recognize which vehicle behavior is this, or does this behavior completely unknown to you guys ? Is it also the former Battle Gear’s railgun scope / interface, or is it some sort of combination / existing railgun montage ?
I am asking because I usually don’t use railguns.

You probably meant MGS5’s. MGS4’s engine is drastically different and yet datamining the PS3’s installation is nearly impossible / too difficult before even planning to extract any UI element and corresponding shaders to make them FoxEngine compliant. Would be impossible and also pain in the .ss to try.
Since I don’t use railguns I am really wondering if it is BG’s or a portable one as you said. Do we have aside BG, a vehicle mounted with a railgun ?

Yeah, the vehicle should be a D-Walker, not seeing it much strafe and things, but BG would have pass through this wooden tower, like in butter… And the collision template is matching, other possible vehicles are too wide. 😀

Ageed, we can fairly expect possible gameplay footage of Survive. I believe it would not hurt to show us what they got. Such gameplay footage itself should not unveil much more than slightly modified TPP controls, but could reveal other interesting elements that would give us a better picture on what’s ahead…
We’ll see.
Taking in account what Survive looks like, I’m guessing some rounds or matches would the best bet. Also I’m betting that the “crafting” stuff will be applied to individual matches to either repair fences or improve weapons.
I don’t think we will see much so soon after E3. But never know of Kojima, he might surprise me.

This is Kojima’s first TGS since the new company was founded, so it seems very likely he will at least attend the show, maybe give some interviews again. His new company and game have to stay in the picture, after all. We knows, we might even get some new footage or info, not many people were expecting the E3 trailer either.

As you said, Hideo is always full of pranks and shows / interviews at TGS, so that’s why I was wondering what would be exposed at Sony’s booth. I believe it would be also in Sony’s interest to show something about it in Japan, since TGS is their own Mother Base show and Hideo is probably the most beloved game developer in Japan. But they are not obliged to provide updates on DS, unless Hideo have readied some material and actually want to share it.
But I guess Golgari did well to lower all our hypes for now so we don’t get too disappointed, if not much happen (I will lay low xD).
I am still pretty confident he’ll do something at least small, but won’t get too disappointed if too small. ;D

Well, what i’m about to tell you, might be…controversial to say the least, but i’m pretty sure MGSV it’s the Story of Big Boss becoming the Villain, like Hideo said, being a Monster, and he is, you can see that he tortured a lot of people since 1974, since he snapped, realizing that “The Boss put down her gun” he tortured Paz for information on Cipher, Zero, he forced Paz and Chico to have Sex, he attacked MSF, he put himself in a comma, he created “Sans Lingua Franca” HE IS A MONSTER, that’s why Miller and everyone else left him in MG1!
And YES, i just eluded that Skull Face is Big Boss, Big Boss with Bandages on his face to cover his identity, a new Identity Big Boss created when realizing The Boss betrayed him, it was too much for him to handle, so he set on the path of Revenge, so he created Skull Face as a justification to go to infinite lengths to find Zero, including torturing people.
Also keep in mind that all the people tortured by Skull Face had their head covered, so they never saw his face!
Good News: In the End, The Third Child, Psycho Mantis managed to “wake up” Big Boss to reality in 1984, with the man on Fire, reminding Big Boss who he is, that he is not Skull Face, he is not a Monster, that’s when Venom Snake was brought back to the Surface, Venom being the John before killing The Boss, while working together with his Big Boss persona to Exterminate Skull Face, to Destroy the Haterted from his soul, with the Light inside of him, illuminating the Darkness “Burning” inside of him, understanding the Boss’s will.
When Venom disarmed all the Nuclear Bombs, that’s the Moment he Truly became…Big Boss, the Big Boss Joy wanted John to be.
However, Venom, the New better Big Boss may not have Blood on his hands, big John has, he still tortured and killed all these people, so that stays with him, FOREVER, the Pain Skull Face caused feels like is still there, but isn’t anymore, Skull Face is Dead.
That pain is…The Phantom Pain that will live with him forever, the Phantom that will haunt him for the rest of his life till his death!
There you go, my Analysis on “The Phantom Pain”, this is not a Conspiracy Theory or something, just my take on what i have played, on what i think Kojima ‘s message is, and 1 of them is in actually 2, and it’s not a Good or Bad Lesson, it’s a Grey Area
1. No matter how horrible we we’re in the past, we’ll always be redeemable , we just have to find the light inside of us, and defeat the darkness, that is 1 step on becoming a better person
2. No matter how good you became after, in the end, you still have that blood on your hands, you may have redeemed, but you should always, always suffer the consequences, pay for your crimes…hence why in the end Big Boss was killed by Solid, he deserved it!

I’d prefer sticking with the usual MGI name :), even if there won’t be MG news coming from Kojima much anymore. I dunno, it would just feel strange to have another name for the place after all these years. Also to have news about all in one place keeps the place busier + maybe easier to control for you.
Another important thing is that keeping such place name, keep ensuring that Metal Gear is Hideo’s intellectual property, even if not contractually and despite if some try to erase his name from the box.
I am not lobbying towards any direction but still believe it is very important. The name contribute as well to that too, and if I were Kojima, I guess I would prefer that people keep associating my name with the one of my baby, as much as possible, and even if it was that violently taken away from me.
How strange, I am thinking about DS trailer right now, even if Hideo says that it is not related to his personal feelings regarding the split.

Right now I’m not really interested in the Kojima stuff but it’s easy for me to just focus on the metal gear stuff anyway plus pretty much every Kojima fan is a metal gear fan so having both in one place actually works well. I have been on this site for years like many so it’s best just to keep everything in one site and now that a new metal gear is coming I will be checking this site often like I used to which may not be a good thing because I gotta go to China soon to be with my girlfriend and she is upset about me taking so long but it is a pretty big thing to move to another country so hopefully she can be patient for the next few months. I hadn’t thought about the game thing until survive was announced, it might be a while before I can afford to get some systems there and even when I do I don’t know if everything will be in Chinese lol, though I don’t think they dub games there so hopefully it will still be in English with Chinese subtitles. Worst case scenario I would have to give up on games for a few years until I get back here but I’m hoping I won’t have to, does anyone know if my ps4 from Australia would work in China? Sorry to go off topic in the comment but this stuff has been on my mind the past few days.

I used to draw a lot when I was younger :), but then I stopped for about 8-10 years. Don’t remember why exactly. But after playing LIS in December, it just made me really wanna do some fanart for it, so I decided to try and see if I can still draw :D. I’m glad I did, because it’s so much fun <3.

Looks good. The only problem i see is with the proportions, looks like you started drawing details, and evolving from that in to the bigger picture, and some things are bigger and some are smaller.
I know because this is the way i draw!
I drew the outlines mostly first before adding more details, but problem I had was using the usual A4 paper size while still wanting to fill most of it :D. I have bigger paper, but the surface on it isn’t good for smooth charcoal shading.
That’s not what i said, it seems that the face shape could have used to be more round instead, the placement of some details is the only problem i see.

For this reason I don’t think it’s a joke, even if it was they are still assholes for making it. If you are a dick to someone no matter if it was a joke or not, you were still a dick to them.
Also I think theories do need to have limits, or else you end up trivializing the word. If a theory is presented as fiction for a joke or any in any context, it’s not a theory, it’s fiction. People are just calling them out on that (like Yong did) – calling their theories fiction, and in response they get all defensive and still label their fan-fic as “real” (just like they did with Yong).
If I make a documentary, but it’s filled with complete scripted and fake nonsense for a joke, it’s not a documentary anymore. Same principle here.

Well, they we’re right about 1 thing, we weren’t playing as Big Boss, mentally at least.
Besides, it’s still possible that the Cyborg Ninja from MGS1 to be John, Big Boss/Venom, and not Frank Jagger. He acted like Big Boss would, also the way he fought Liquid, basically re-enacting the Sahelanthropus fight.
Also, Big Boss, or Venom Lost his arm, who says when Solid “Killed Him” he wasn’t the one brought back to life as a Cyborg, the arm is already a hint at that if you think about it, plus, he has the exact matching scars and same eye missing as Venom…10 years before TPP was officially a thing.
Just think about it, would it be that far fetched for the cyborg ninja to be Boss/Venom wanting Revenge on Solid, but in the end choosing to forgive, and die by the hands of Liquid for his sins…as Skull Face?

Nah, that’s conventional Hollywood filming. Tom Hardy (Bane form TDKR) is much smaller than Christian Bale (Batman) so they had to use the exact same technique to make him look taller. Kojima likes films, this technique has been around since the near beginning of film-making, made especially popular with the rise in popularity of the Frankenstein/Godzilla/Monster genre of the 40s – 60s.
Also it’s literally impossible for Kojima to be involved in the making of that film.

It’s a little bit disappointing, yes, but at the same time it means that story-wise we already have a complete game. There are no more chapters planned. End of the discussion. So we can now relax and continue our peaceful existence as Big Medics in a world of MGSV.
The ruse cruise will never die. Despite this people will still cling onto disarmament, if disarmament happens and nothing occurs people will cling onto Survive, when that leads to nothing they will cling DS’s release to determine if that has anything to do with MGS, when they see DS is completely unrelated like Kojima has been saying for ages now they’ll cling onto the next MGS game and so on… It’s an endless cycle of confirmation bias. But that reaction is expected and fine to be honest. If it makes people truly happy and heightens their enjoyment of the game, more power to them.

I think it was the idea of revealing a supposed ‘Chapter 3’ shortly after the game came out that ticked off the community. I’m not all that fussed about it to be honest, but if it did become a reality, it would show the player what Big Boss was up to after he escaped the Cyprus hospital and during Venom Snake’s escapades (which, as we all know, was him building Outer Heaven/Zanzibar Land).
It all comes down how you view things really.To some Venom Snake and Big Boss are not the same people(if you look at things black n white) and to some they are the same person.
I think i know what Kojima wanted to do with MGSV and that is why appreciate the game more then other mgs games before it.
And that is why i was unscathed by the ending of the game,if anything i quite enjoyed it(tho i wouldn’t say no to story DLC).
My only grudge with the game is the game pacing,and that is the price to pay when you make an open world game.

There was a point that I did indeed care about a chapter 3, but now since I think that the likelihood of it coming out is far into the realms of impossibility my interest in it has completely fizzled out.
Despite not being a fan of this games’ story at all I think the gameplay is masterfully designed, so well designed that after a near 300 hour playthrough on PS4, I recently re-bought the game on PC, doing a completely new run and I am enjoying the game as much as when I first played through it. If that isn’t a sign of a masterpiece I don’t know what it. I’ve seen and played the game so many times but the first few hours of play gave me the same chills I had during my first playthough. The graphic mods also helped a bit in giving the game a bit of new life and a slightly different look, but still.
